I find it amusing that the book seems to turn in to real life. The book sorta just pulls the reader in to it. I felt like I was Jonas and that I had to receive all those memories.

The first time I read The Giver I was in grade 8, we had to read it for the high school English class at that time, I hated the book, probably because I didn't understand it and what everything in the book meant. I read it again later and actually learned to like it. I guess because I was older I understood the book, the storyline and could appreciate the characters better. Now I find it a good read and would probably recommend it to anyone who has an interest for books like it.

Where I live, we have an annual competition where you and your teammates read forty Newbery books and then at the competition, answer questions about them. the Giver was on the list a few times, but I was never allowed to read it, due to the scene of the releasing. Now, after I graduated from the competition, I was finally allowed to read it. It was a really good book, and I ended up reading the whole quarter. I love it and wish that there was another book. Lois Lowery is an amazing author!

I read this book for the first time just recently and instantly fell in love. Louis Lowery spun such a convincing tale that I couldn't wait to get my hands on the next one. I love how Louis Lowery was able to keep consistency throughout the series, and had such precise details that you knew who the characters were. I also loved how in the last book she brought the main characters together. The only wish I have is that she would write more.

I loved not just this book but the whole series. It ties everything together perfectly, and it's so easy to read, with no over-complicated things. I liked how each book switched to a different story. The realizing how they connect was my favorite part. I'd recommend it.

Such an amazing story that left me rooting for change. Stories like these always have a real life influence and meaning that make you wonder how your own life might relate. The ending is a cliff hanger in the book but the film finishes it off.

Excellent book. I read the quartet and highly recommend all of these books. I just watched the movie this weekend, it was good but not as good as the book, which for me is almost always the case.

The Giver is my favorite book and has been since I first read it in 5th grade. I have re-read it multiple times over the years and get something different from it every time. The Giver is by far my favorite book in the series (which include Gathering Blue, The Messenger, and Son). When teaching critical thinking to children, I often use this book to ask them to challenge what they consider "normal." As an adult, it serves as a well-illustrated social critique. I cannot say enough positive things about this book.

I absolutely loved this book, also being a lover of dystopian novels. I was a little saddened by the ending of the book, though. I loved how well you could get caught up in the book and it was almost impossible to put down.

I read this book in Jr. High and enjoyed it. Since it has been many years since I last read there are parts I've forgotten. My son, whom I homeschool, will be reading this soon. Perhaps we'll read it together.

While reading the giver, there were many things going through my head at the time! This book had many things going on in it at a time. It also, was lay back and it was kind of a slow read! There was very much going on but in a manner that kind of made it a slow read. This book was able to capture your attention right from the beginning from the ceremonies and then how the rules were at the families home to the old and some of the new norms having to be "released". I enjoyed reading this book knowing that there were so many cool things happening throughout the entire story something new was happening. It made it so that you were always on the move trying to figure out what was going to happen next. Then finding out that Jonas ends up being the next Giver and then that's when things start to pick up and everything begins to change in the matter of sentences!

I read this book in high school and I'm sad to say I didn't like it. I don't know why because I love this type of genre but it just didn't appeal to me. I even watched the movie to give it a fair chance but again it just didn't catch my interest.

I didn't know this was a series. Can you tell me what the titles of the books are?

The giver was a great book, it makes you realize how important emotions are. I loved the book and can't wait to read the rest of the series.
