This is the place for readers of poetry. Discuss poetry and literary art. You can also discuss music here, including lyrics. Also, you can discuss poets themselves, in addition to poetry.

Pancho and Lefty is terribly sad
We fade away, but vivid in our eyes
A world is born again that never dies.

Billy Venero was a tear-jerker. About a young cowboy racing to warn his sweetie about attacking Apaches.

Wow!!! There are some great, great sad Country songs listed. Some of the many sad songs that I like:

I'm So Lonesome I could Cry - Hank Williams
I Can't Get my Foot Off The Rail - Tex Ritter
The Long Black Veil - Lefty Frizzell
Old Rivers - Walter Brennan

I think most of those have already been posted though. :)

I always get upset by "I Can Still Make Cheyenne" by George Strait.
For sappy, there's one called "I'd Be Better Off in a Pine Box" by Doug Stone, I think.

Whiskey Lullaby by Brad Paisley, it's definitely one of the saddest I've ever heard other than Just A Dream by Carrie Underwood.

Believe me I'm not mocking as I actually love Country music, but would love to know if it's true or apocryphal that there actually is a song with the line 'These aren't teardrops, they're sincere drops'??

From Bill Anderson..............
They're not tear drops, just sincere drops
Tha say I'm lonesome and I love you

They were on my pillow when I woke up this morning
They were on the letter I tried all day to write
And just a little while ago I saw them falling
On your picture as I kissed it goodnight

Chorus...
They're not teardrops, just sincere drops
Hurry home drops, you've been gone so long drops
I need you drops, I miss you drops
That say I'm lonesome and I love you

Never knew this heart could hurt the way it hurts for you
Never knew so many lifetimes in one week
Why don't you come back to me the way you said you would
And wipe these little crystals off my cheek

Chorus...
I need you drops, I miss you drops
Hurry home drops, you've been gone so long drops
They're not tear drops, just sincere drops
That say I'm lonesome and I love you...I love you...I love you
