Review: Vampire Academy
In the YA Fiction world, vampires have become a common staple and are used among many authors. So common, in fact, it is starting to grow a little boring. However, Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead, segregates from the repetitive trend. Mead uses aspects from traditional urban fantasy features and mythology, but tops it off with a very chick-lit feel. Unlike portraying vampires as hideous night crawlers, Mead transforms hers into modelesque creatures.
After delving into the book, readers find it hard to stop turning the pages. Everything from the well-developed, likeable, characters to the action filled plot, leaves readers craving for more!
Vampire Academy is told from the perspective of 17 year old, Dhampir, Rose Hathaway. Rose's character is particularly refreshing and unique because it offers a strong, female lead. She is not only determined to protect her best friend, Lissa Dragomir, from muderous Strigoi, but also is not afraid to voice her opinion when things are not going her way. The story follows the lives of best friends Lisa and Rose, and their journey at St. Vladamir's Academey, and the numerous people and obstacles they encounter during their stay there. Vampire Academy offers readers an exclusive mix of drama, action, and hot-romance all at once!
Over all, this book was a pleasant read and I found the main characters to be very relatable. I was never bored while reading and constantly engrossed in the story. Surprisingly, there is a strong amount of profanity, as well as, graphic violence that readers might want to be aware of. Other than that, Vampire Academy is one paranormal romance book that readers will find themselves reading over and over again!
What are your opinions about the book? Let me know!
