Re: Showing versus telling

Post by dramaquill »

I read something somewhere recently (likely one of the many e-zines I get) that gave a really simple approach to showing versus telling. The Five Senses - see/hear/touch/feel/taste
Instead of telling us that your character is ________, let your character show us.
Telling is this: Sandra was eating an apple.
Showing is this: Sandra crunched through the shiny red skin of her mackintosh apple.
We can hear how it sounds for her to eat it and we can visualize it by the description. Next line could add how it tastes.
