This review is over the book Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell. There will be come spoilers, so if you have not read this book, go back while you can! Now for the rest of you who have read this or just want to be spoiled, carry on. First off, I want to say that I put reading this book off for awhile because of all of the hype behind it. A lot of people praised this book and I maybe only saw one or two bad reviews for it. In my opinion, it was not as good as the hype made it out to be. Don't get me wrong, it was a good read but not as good as I thought it would be. The story follows Cath who basically lives her life as a fangirl. She breathes, sleeps, and lives The Simon Snow Series. Cath, being as obsessed as she is, writes her own fan fiction over the fictional story. Cath has a twin sister, Wren, who was just as obsessed as she was. They are raised by their father who is a little crazy. He tends to be very bipolar. Their mother left them when they were young and Cath grew up hating her for that. When the book starts, they are getting ready to leave for college. Cath isn't a very social person, except online, so she's hesitant about it when Wren decides that she doesn't want to be her roommate. Cath is upset by this because they grew up roommates. Cath's roommate is a little sketchy in my opinion but I think she means well. She helps Cath with social problems and even, indirectly, causes Cath to get a boyfriend, Levi. Levi is Cath's roommate's ex boyfriend who hangs around their room all of the time. Cath deals with several obstacles in this book but it just seemed to go by real slowly. I thought it was going to be a breeze to get through but it took me awhile to read it. Cath doesn't really seem to change in my opinion. She does a little but I was hoping for more character development from Cath. Wren does a full-180, becomes atypical drunk freshman, gets alcohol poisoning, and decides that isn't the lifestyle for her. Wren patches things up with her mother but Cath never does. I just wish Cath kind of did talk to her mom about what happened and patched things up as well. I loved Cath and Levi's relationship, I just wish there was a little more dynamics to their relationship and I am glad that Cath did decide to go back to college the second semester for her dad. Overall, it was a great feel-good story but it did get a little boring.
