Stephen King. I don't understand why his novels are so popular. I've read a few and thought they were all lame. Some of them start off good but they seem to fizzle out.....

I never did like him and then came the question of was he really doing his own work or was it Christopher Marlowe? :eusa-think:

Great Question! It amazes me how many people talk of Shakespeare's accomplishments without even knowing of Marlowe.

I know, right?

So, did they ever come to any determination? Was Shakespeare doing his own work or do we have to tip our hats to Marlowe? I never heard the outcome of the debate.

I suppose that in debates such as this, we can only hope that the truth will be made known in the end.

I admire all authors, just because it's so much work to write a book. I don't have the talent to write and publish a book, so I respect anyone who can! With that said, I think Rick Riordan is pretty overrated. Especially his later books.

Hey, I happen to like Rick Riordan. I'll admit he is a bit overrated, but if you're bored you can read his books!

I think I may have said this before but Sylvia Day. I don't know if it's necessarily her writing but I do know it's her ego. I don't care who you are or how good you think you are, you don't make people wait 18 months for the next installation of a series and have it be mediocre.

Yeah, I'm still ticked about the Crossfire series.

I love that quote!

Geronimo Stilton- I don't know why he's so popular at my library. His books are cheesy, literally.

Paulo Coelho is one, in my humble opinion.

E.L. James. Those "Fifty Shades of Grey" books were crap. It was like reading something written by a 16 year old virgin. I made it through 2, but after that I couldn't torture my brain any more.

I'm going to have to agree with quite a few people and say I find John Green to be a pretty overrated author. I read Fault in Our Stars after the big hype hit and I was sorely disappointed. The dialogue is so unsettling. No teenagers talk like that. Heck, I don't know adults that talk like that. It was just...very weird and I couldn't connect with the characters because they just felt flat to me. I'm sure he's a great guy and everything. I just wasn't taken by him at all. Maybe his other books are better. I'm going to be giving Paper Towns a go so we'll see.

Somewhere in this thread people were talking about Philippa Gregory - also going to agree with those people. I really did like The Other Boleyn Girl, it got me interested in the Tudors and whatnot, but now that I'm very familiar with the history of that time her books make me cringe. Especially because so many people take things she says as fact. Like Anne sleeping with her brother and giving birth to a demon spawn. Maybe overrated is the wrong word for her but I'm annoyed that her works are treated like gospel by younger people (older ones too, like my mom). Her other books have not been near the same level as The Other Boleyn Girl either, in my opinion.

I'm also not a Jane Austen fan. I find her protagonists grating. That's really all there is to it.

Ayn Rand. This woman as well as her work is WAY overrated.

I was coming to say exactly the same. Reading Atlas Shrugged made me want to go to a dentist to have a root canal because it would probably be more enjoyable.
