The Catastrophic History of You and Me by Jess Rothenberg

Post by lennon_fontaine14 »

One of the most life-altering books I’ve ever read.

I’m talikng epic. Life changing. The “can’t eat, can’t sleep, can’t do your homework, can’t stop giggling, can’t remember anything but his smile” kind of hold.
Just WOW. It’s my first time to read this kind of story eventhough I’ve seen a lot of books that tells about life and death. It has a different plot which makes it hard to predict what will happen next. Honestly, I never envision myself getting hooked with this book. But, man, the story was really heartbreaking, inspiring and all sorts of emotions are here.

The problem is, there is absolutely nothing “fun” about falling in love. Nope. Mostly it just makes you feel sick and crazy and axious and nervous that it’s going to end miserably and ruin your while life.
The Catastrophic History of You and Me is about Aubrie Eagan who unexpectedly died due to broken heart- you can take it literally and figuratively, which was cause by his boyfriend Jacob Fischer.

But before leaving everything else behind her back, which she can’t really do because she is not ready to accept the fact that she’s already dead at the age of sixteen, she decided to go back to Moon Bay and visit all that she has lost, and get a little bit of payback with persons that she thinks betrayed her. Together with Patrick, her friend and the resident Lost Soul, Aubrie is now ready to realize that death is inevitable and that there is always something good in every miserable moments of our lives.

… I wished I had known just how lucky I’d been to have them in the first place.

To have lived. To have loved. To have been loved.
There are a lot of things that amazed me while reading this-
a) the-think-and-wish-you-can-have-it-part,
b) that you can’t just go straight to heaven after death ‘cos sometimes you just gotta do some unfinish business on Earth
c) endless pizza and sprite
d) yes, lessons. Lessons to ponder even if you’re going to read a lot of books after this one.

Aubrie’s character shows that we shouldn’t make judges when we are mad. Ask. What’s wrong? Find out reasons. Not just concluding on your own and suffering from the repercussions you’ve made.

Patrick’s character tells us that true love after all doesn’t end when you don’t occupy space anymore, true love is forever even in your afterlife.

“Forever’s a pretty long time. Maybe longer than you think.”
Can you please tell me what’s really hard? To be alive and to witness how people betray you at your back? Or to be dead and witness the same thing knowing that you CAN NOT do anything but to mourn? Be sad, angry? Or just let the energy that’s left of you be use to know that you still matter even if you don’t occupy space anymore?

And because of this book, I’d love to read other books that has the same type of story as this.

Do what is right and you will be at peace.

In life there is no greater gift than peace,

except love.

May you always have love.

Hoping you’ll be able to read this one! And if you ever did, let me hear your opinions about this book! xoxo
