My favorite was the first book, because, I don't know, I got this impression that once the first book became a success Collins decided to write a sequel even though there was no need to, that's what I thought, though she did a brilliant job in connecting them to each other!

I also liked the first book the best. I tend to usually like the first book in a series; that seems to be a habit of mine. I have also found that there are several series of books where I have felt that the author should have stopped there and simply had an awesome book instead of a mediocre series (though I do not believe The Hunger Games series is one of these cases).

I loved this series. At the end of each book it kept me wanting more. It was fun, fast paced, and an adventure. I would love to find more series like this.

A good "old-fashioned" google search would help you. That is what my daughter did. She typed in "series similar to The Hunger Games" and found quite a few series that she now loves.

Also, the library is a great place to try. Usually the librarian would be willing to give you some good suggestions.

Of course the first book is my favorite, but there was no point during the third book that I thought "Wow, this is really subpar." And I definitely like the third book better than the second; I liked getting to see more of the "world", and I liked that we got to see more of the big picture of what Katniss was involved in. I also liked that the third book acknowledged more of the shades of gray that are present in the real world as opposed to just having the whole book be "the good guys vs. the bad guys."
I throughly agree I loved the third book it was actually my favorite of the series. I think it gave more depth to all the people involved. It really dove into deeper issues, which is what really completed the hunger games as a strong and quite beautiful parody. I believe without the third book the other two would have been cruel oppression followed by aimless rebellion which would have made the other two books unmemorable and emotionless.

My favorite is the second one because Peta gets stronger. He was my favorite character since the first book because his strength was in his heart.
I read the first book faster though, because it made me very curious since it was different from anything I ever read. Then I watched the movie (which was ok but I still prefer the book). The third book is ok... of course I was happy about Katniss ending up with Peta ;)

I love love loved this series. The first book was amazing, descriptive, and intense. When I went and saw the movie, it was almost exactly as I pictured everything in my head. I love when that happens because you know the author has obviously done an amazing job with their imagery. I fell in love with the characters. I read all 3 books in the course of 2 days. The second book was almost equally as good. There were a lot of times where I was sitting on the edge of my seat, metaphorically of course, because things got so intense. But then there was the third book. I was enjoying the first two so much that when I got to the third and there wasn't much going on, I instantly got bored. I had a very hard time even getting through the book, honestly. It got better towards the end when things were being set on fire and everything, but the first half was horribly bland. Overall, this is a great series and I would read it again...even though I wanted Katniss to be with Gale so badly!

I much prefer the books to the movies, but then I read them before I watched them. Suzanne Collins just seems to really understand her audience.

The first book of the series had me on the edge of my seat. I read it in one sitting, then read the second book the next day. However, when I got to the third in the series I kind of lost interest, and was very disappointed in the ending. There seemed to be no climax, but instead an abrupt ending with no possibility of a fourth book in the series. That disappointed me a bit. However, overall I love the entire series and am so looking forward to the movies.

My favorite book in the series is the first one, because you are freshly introduced and immersed in the dystopian world and everything is new. I enjoyed the other two books as well, but nothing beat the first hunger games that you read about, especially with the first impression of the violence. You almost become immune to it once the series goes on.

Yes I agree, the first book was my favorite by far. You are so new the violence, and it makes the reading experience more exciting! I loved the other books, but you already kind of new what was gonna happen, and the violence didn't surprise you as much as the first book. They were still good believe me, but not as exciting.

I can't really decide which book is my favorite. I enjoyed all three. I couldn't put them down! I felt connected to Katniss the minute I started reading the first book. I didn't even really know what the book was all about or what was going to happen when she volunteered for the Hunger Games and still got emotional!

I like the first book of this series the best, I usually do. In this case even more so because The Hunger Games could stand on it's own with a little tweaking and still be pretty amazing. It really makes the statement for this series and the other two just finish the story.

The first book was definitely my favorite. If it wasn't for that one completely entrancing me I'm not sure that I would have read the other two books. In fact, after I read the first book I promptly went out and bought the last two books the next day. For me, the movies do not even begin to portray the feelings I had while reading, they left out some of the important details and did not do the book justice. Unfortunately that's how many movies are, however. The entire series was beautiful and one that I would definitely read again.

It's been a while since I've read The Hunger Games trilogy, but I distinctly remember that the order from my favorite to least favorite of the books was this:
1) Catching Fire
2) The Hunger Games
3) Mockingjay

I loved Catching Fire because it was so action-packed and constantly kept me on the edge of my seat. The area was a lot more exciting and daunting than the woods were in The Hunger Games, and the twists that came with it had me screaming into my pillow. The bulk of the newly introduced characters were likable for either their courageousness, compassion, sass, intelligence, or oddness. I also enjoyed the honest romance that blossomed between Katniss and Peeta.
Mockingjay, however, was a huge downer for me. With Katniss's depression, Effie's absence, the basically irreversible change in Peeta's persona, the gutting casualties, and that unsatisfactory ending (I wanted to know what happened to everybody else!), I was and still to this day frustrated am by how Collins concluded the trilogy. I mean, I know that it was realistic considering the type of world these characters lived in, but I cannot help thinking some occurrences were unnecessary and wishing there was a longer epilogue.
