Thanks!!

Huh. Yeah, that's interesting. I will have some pointers, as soon as I find my kitten.

While I'm looking, what do you want to write? Genre, audience, etc. It will help me come up with ideas to know what you're into. :-)

I FOUND MY KITTEN!! Finally!! Oh, he's a baaaaaad kitten. He's a baaaaaad baaaaad kitten.

My week is finally looking up.

Thanks for the support, and get back to me about those questions! I'm sure I can help. :-)

Just curious, does the book provide any sources? I'm usually hesitant to always trust the "if it's from nature it must be healthy" mindset. There are some interesting studies out there that test the effectiveness of herbs and natural remedies in curing and preventing disease.

Good question. No, there are no sources or references. There are some assertions here regarding the effectiveness of spices in 'preventing' cancer and heart disease. I think these are exaggerations. I have no doubt that spices, herbs, natural remedies, etc., are beneficial and contribute to wellness, but it's probably not possible to quantify this, and the author doesn't really try to do so.

Does the author mention, too, that 6 grams of cinnamon a day can damage your liver? (This is why I have my dad taking 1 or 2 grams a day, which is 1 or 2 pills. That would make it easy for anyone not informed to take too much.) Does the author cover the dangers of over-supplementing your health with spices?

There is no specific mention of 6 grams of cinnamon. The author does caution against using too much of a spice in its natural (pure) form, because they are much more potent and can cause adverse reactions, especially if taking medications. For example, turmeric tends to thin the blood, so if you are already taking a blood thinner, you need to be careful.

The author argues that it is better to cook with spices rather than to take them in capsules or pills. When spices are closer to their natural forms, they are better absorbed by the body and the benefit is greater. Also, there is less of a danger of ingesting too much, as too much spice will make food distasteful. Your sense of taste acts as a natural inhibitor to ingesting too much.

Sounds like you know as much, if not more than this author. See? You should write your book!

You're too kind. I'm the nut. My dad says I was out of line to criticize this book for being only nineteen pages long. Then he started waxing nostalgic about Common Sense by Thomas Paine. Then he lectured about the Declaration of Independence.

Anyway, I apologize. Trust me when I say that I've been thoroughly punished. (I could not shut him up for half an hour.)

Wow, your dad must be really old. Like he was there or something.

"Da*n kids these days, reading their printed books! When I was their age we didn't have printing! Had to write every book by hand. Yessiree. Had to make our own ink out of tree sap and crushed black beetles. You know how many beetles it takes to make enough ink to copy Common Sense? Hella lot, I'll tell ya. That's when men were men. People knew what an honest day's work was. None of this pansy-a@@ printing. We appreciated books, cause we knew how many beetles it took to make 'em!"

Sorry, that got away from me a bit.

Thanks for the apology, but no need! After all, I didn't write it. Hopefully, if the author is secretly looking in, :shifty: , she won't be too upset.

I can travel on the mist. I can fall as drops of rain. I'm carried by the sound of chirping crickets on a soft summer night. When you slightly miss your mouth with the toothbrush, and that small blob of cool toothpaste is at the corner of your lips, that's me.

Ok, now you guys are getting weird.....or were you weird already? :)
I guess this is what happens when you discuss a nineteen-page book. Imagine if it was 15 pages.
