Review: "Red Moon" by Benjamin Percy

Post by jc_smith27 »

When it comes to werewolves, I am more of a movie fan than I am a book fan. However, I was pleasantly surprised with this book.

If you are looking for a werewolf "love story" like that introduced in the Twilight Saga, this book does not go that route. It more-so takes a discrimination themed-setting. That is, it separates Earth's inhabitants into three classes: Full lycan, semi-lycan, and human. (Forgive me as I forget the actual names of the classes.) We are introduced to the lives of individual people whom fall into each category. And we see how the war between the classes affects everyday life. That is, the humans want to kill the lycans, semi-lycans just want to live peacefully, and the full lycans want to kill everyone in their wake. We are introduced to factions that carry out the goals as noted above.

What is intriguing about this novel is the constant twists and turns it takes. This becomes very relevant when the new president gets bitten and eventually transforms into a lycan and lives out a life that way. Not to mention that Percy does an excellent job in also bashing the political shrewdness that politicians have.

This story is full of mystery, bloodshed, and little bit of romance.

It is intriguing to see how the different classes interact with each other and how manipulative people can be to get that "mob mentality" working in their favor.

I look forward to reading other novels by Benjamin Percy.
