I am not sure if they would like them but here are my thoughts on some modern books for people age 13 to 17.

1. The Percy Jackson series/Heroes of Olympus series by Rick Riordan
2. The Mortal Instrument series by Cassandra Clare
3. The ascendance trilogy by Jennifer A. Nielsen
4. Eragon by Christopher Paolini
5. The Divergence series by Veronica Roth
6. The Fault in our Stars by John Green
7. The Maximum Ride series by James Patterson
8. The Ranger's Apprentice series by John Flanagan
9. The Fablehaven series by Brandon Mull
10. The Artemis Fowl series by Eoin Colfer
If you decide to use any of these books I hope the kids like them!
