Best I've done so far is by word of mouth. Told my other bookworm buddies about this forum. They're probably already lurkers in here.

As far as I can see this forum is surprisingly clean from spammers. Could be thanks to you FrancisD :)

Count me in. The reading/writing forums at my home boards (Delphi) are all but dead so yeah. Should be easy enough to get some people over here.

You can also make a LinkedIn account with the forum. And also, who wants to promote the forum might put a link and a message to his/her Messenger, MSN, Google IM etc. profile.

Lord No ... lets keep it really exclusive & select.

New visitors should have to prove they have entered a bookshop or library on at least one occasion in their lifetime & that they have read the fly leaf of at least one book from the "The big Read - Top 100 List" before being admitted.

Then like the Illuminati we could develop a secret sign to introduce ourselves lest we chance to meet ... can't be a handshake though because a) handshake is taken by the Masons & b) the risk of loosing our place in the current book ... maybe a

I favour the  myself because it can be activated without the risk of interruption to reading but I am open to other suggestions.

I second your suggestions, Fran, i actually love the cosy nature of this forum- not too many people, not too little people. but the spam and the constant members who only stick around for 2 or 3 posts is annoying.

Lets keep it exclusive, Fran, or should i say.....Number Fifteen ( )

I have a basic forum that I also discuss literature in. I'd gladly mention and provide a link to this forum!

Anything that gets more people to sign up is always welcome but the problem lies in getting people to STAY signed up; so many people visit and then sign up to the site and then leave after 3 posts! It has improved a lot the last months with several new members sticking around though and hopefully this will continue, the more the merrier! :D

It might be something to do with them seeing somebody's avatar. It might make them feel just a little uneasy...
