I'm quite sure it's fiction. Yeah, I grabbed it almost as soon as I saw it. It sounded unique and interesting. I'm glad I did.

This is what I told a recent interviewer: "It isn’t a memoir, but I did draw [heavily] from my own experience of being raised in a highly conservative, largely withdrawn environment. [Most of the true stuff is in Part Two.] As far as the rest goes, the book took up so much of my life over the past three years and went through so many different manifestations that even I sometimes have trouble separating fact from fiction. But I suppose that’s par for a fiction writer. There is one area I’d like to distance myself from, but to do so would be something of a spoiler, so I guess I’ll take my chances."

Also, "...and that, my liege, is how we know the Earth to be banana-shaped."

Thanks for the backstory. :) I think writers commonly draw from their own experiences and mix it in with the fictional parts.

Thanks, that was interesting to know. Part Two was quite interesting, and the conflicts and emotions experienced by the character were very well described. (Is the part about the forgotten room in the church true?)

Now, why do witches burn?
Because....they're made of wood?
Gooood. So how do you tell whether she is made of wood?
Build a bridge out of her!

There WAS an old forgotten well room, actually. Although most of the stuff that happened there was more innocent than the book suggests. It was used mostly to hide from the religious adults.

I suppose most authors, to a greater or lesser degree, base plot elements, settings, and characters on their own personal experiences.

Great review. Wonderful analysis and critique! I really enjoyed reading your review. It sounds like this is more of an experimental novel. It cannot easily be put into any genre.
