Most disappointing movie adaptation

Eragon and Harry Potter, I love these books and the movies were such a disappointment!

Without a doubt it has to be The Keep. Just horrible! Ruined such a great book by F. Paul Wilson.

The worst books that have been made into a movie for me have been The Mortal Instruments and The Fault In Our Stars. I feel like the book version of The Fault In Our Stars taught me so many things about living your life not letting any situation you are stuck in get the best of you. Gus' character also taught me that it's okay to be a common person and not some greatly remembered hero that I once wanted to be. And I feel like the movies just didn't show any of this, they focused mostly on the romance of the book and getting the characters to fall in love not the life lessons the book was supposed to teach which is why I'm so disappointed in the movie adaptation. As for The Mortal Instruments, I thought that the entire movie wads extremely confusing because no one really explained anything. And Clary's character was the most disappointing for me because I really looked up to her. She was so brave putting herself into complete danger to protect her mother but in the movie they made her completely rely on either Jace or Simon which was kind of depressing to me.

Defintely, The Help it left out so many details The same has to be said about Twilight, specificly the first one!

Alright - honest opinion time (by the way, good topic).

First movie that came to mind was Eragon. Granted, the first book of the Inheritance Cycle was kind of juvenile (Paolini got better at writing as the series went on) but the movie was awful, and it shouldn't have been. Jeremy Irons, Rachel Weisz and John Malkovich? But they changed the book too much, and it was awful. It also gets more awful points for ruining the chances for the rest of the series to get film adaptations.

I actually thought that The Fault In Our Stars was a good movie, even if it didn't compare to the book. As for Twilight, I thought the movie was better than the book. Although I suppose that depends on what you wanted to get out of the book.

In general, I tend to like movie adaptations of book in proportion to how much the writer was involved in the film.

Case in point - Stephen Chbosky's The Perks Of Being A Wallflower. I'm pretty sure he directed the movie, and it was stellar.

I can't believe I'm typing this but I think after Twilight (obviously), Harry Potter was incredibly disappointing. So many important details were portrayed incorrectly or entirely ignored. I also felt that many of the emotional themes that J.K. Rowling weaved through the novels failed to make it into the movies. While casting and directing was great, I was disappointed by the minute details that really tied the series together.

Fifty Shades of Grey had to be the most disapointing movie for me! The actors were not what I imagined and the scenes between Anastasia and Christian were not only awkward but almost lame as well. I did not expect the movie to be so dull and difficult to watch!

While I agree that Mortal Instruments was pretty bad, (I re-read the books just to be sure the movie was totally different from the plot I remembered) I thought Beautiful Creatures was even worse! They cut out major characters and none of it made any sense. What a disappointment!

I hated the movie adaptation of Message in a Bottle. I loved the book and cried for weeks. Saw the movie and I was outraged, it was so much better in my head.

For me the worst movie adaptation was The Queen of the Damned. They tried to smash The Vampire Lestat and Queen of the Damned bookd together and lost the story of both. I remember watching it with my sister right after reading the series and I paused the movie every 5 minutes to explain how the real story went. Despite the fact that Stuart Townsend was not an ideal choice for Lestat, the cheesy special effects and confusing story were extremely disappointing. Especially after considering how great an adaptation Interview with the Vampire was.

My go-to answer for this is always The Last Airbender. But since that was based on a TV show instead of a book, I'll hop on the bandwagon and also say The Mortal Instruments. I hadn't even read the series, but the movie definitely turned me off to it. I realize that isn't fair to the author or the books themselves, but the film was filled with such a high volume of fantasy/adventure and just general storytelling cliches that it was hard to stomach. I don't think being entirely original is necessary, but the presentation just wasn't cutting it.

While there are a few that didnt quite get it right; Harry Potter series, Twilight series they were close enough to be decent. The one that annoyed me the most was a series of unfortunate events. They crammed the first three books into one movie and cut majority of the storyline I know it's called a series of unfortunate events but the movie made it seem like the poor kids never had a good day in their life.

I still haven't watched tomorrow when the war began because i would hate if that one was ruined as well.

The Eragon movie wasn't even close to being as good as the book was. Eragon was one of the first actual books I read. Now I did see the movie before I read the book, and actually liked it, but after reading the book... not so much.

The Percy Jackson movies are so horrible compared to the books. I hope the Heroes of Olympus series are made into accurate movies.

Percy Jackson and the Lightening Thief and The Perks of Being a Wallflower. Percy Jackson was portrayed childishly and The Perks of Being a Wallflower lacked the emotion brought forth by the book (which was disappointed because it had Logan Lerman and Emma Watson).
