What would you do for the chance to talk to your crush? Would you pretend to be someone you're not? Would you try to negotiate with drug dealers? Would you risk your own life? Well, that's what Michael Dion does in his hometown, Toronto, Canada. In Gerry Fostaty's thriller, Stage Business, he sets the scene for an interesting and entertaining ride.
Being an actor isn't easy, especially when you are crushing on an actress who's more talented than you and won't even give you the time of day. Until one day, when she expresses concern about a friend's missing son, Kyle. Kyle has a propensity for getting himself into less than ideal situations, but this time he has bitten off more than he can chew. At the urging of his crush, Amanda, Michael does anything to help find this missing seventeen year old, thinking this is his one chance to get closer to her. He even endangers his own life...multiple times!
I really enjoyed reading Stage Business. Fostaty engages you right from the beginning and keeps your attention with a likable, easy-going male protagonist and a straight-forward story line. It is an easy, somewhat quick read that will be sure to capture a wide range of readers. The story gives readers just enough information to fully appreciate Michael's story, without being long and draining.
The assortment of characters and personalities in this book are nicely developed. Michael Dion proves to be ambitious and dedicated throughout the novel. He will go to great lengths to help someone out. One of my personal favorite characters is Nigel, who is an actor and Micheal's best friend. He is funny, charismatic, and I can easily see myself being friends with him. Some of the minor characters are not as developed, but they don't necessarily need to be in order to tell and appreciate this story.
Another aspect of this book I liked is the idea of how a group of co-workers come together so easily and willingly to help out a friend. Michael's actor friends are the kind of friends you would be lucky to have. They don't question why – they just say 'yes' and offer their assistance in any way they can.
After reading Stage Business by Gerry Fostaty, I would give this book a 4 out of 4 stars. I recommend this to those who like a straight forward, quick, suspenseful, and somewhat humorous novel. Young adults and up would enjoy reading Stage Business. I can honestly say I am happy that I was given the chance to read and review this great book.

Thank you! Are you talking about the 1987 movie? I just watched the trailer. I don't remember most of it, but I absolutely watched this movie!
