I think books can have the terror, creepy factor easier than movies, video games, television because we've been desensitived to actually seeing it, but reading it and imagining it ourselves is different. I love books that elicit the kind of response of being suspended waiting for what comes next. This looks like it would be a good book to add to my collection. Thanks for the great review.

@literarycat Exactly, very well said. I wholeheartedly agree. Reading is the only way to fly. Thank you for the good word.

I am the opposite. I am one of those people that covers my eyes or jumps during parts of a scary movie or TV show. Scary books, on the other hand, don't scare me as much....with the exception of The Amityville Horror! I read that book and then took it out of my house and threw it out in a trash can. I wouldn't even throw it in our outside trash can because I didn't want the book physically anywhere near me.

Oh I am the same way. My boyfriend watches The Strain and I hid behind my book. I can't do scary movies do get me but books get me more because I can imagine it more because my mind comes up some twisted images lol

Ha ha I actually agree, Owlie. I think I can become more physically scared during a movie, but more mentally disturbed sometimes during a book. I hate getting desensitized like that, and maybe that's part of why I've ditched the boob tube altogether. Let's hear it for books everyone!!
P.s. Wow you really were disturbed by that book. The Shining did that to me when I was younger. I couldn't go to the bathroom without first having someone go and open the door and open up the shower curtain. Haha

@literarycat I loved The Strain! One thing I miss about t.v.

He did catch me peeking over the pages every now and then lol. We discussed this in a panel at a literary convention I went to about H.P. Lovecraft, we can be scared by the movie but deeply disturbed by the book because the one thing a movie or TV can't get that a book does is the atmosphere an author creates like something lurking. Movies show us the big bad in the shadows but a book doesn't. It keeps that thing lurking, creeping in the dark.

I love that. Very well said. The lurking thing is only revealed when it enters your mind, not like when a movie foreshadows it.

Escapeartist, I'm a little confuse by your rating of 4/4 stars. The way you described the plot and writing style in your review makes it sound like you didn't like it at all. only in the last paragraph did I get any indication that you really enjoyed it. At first, I was willing to give this book a try, but now I'm thinking it's not for me. I like a good mystery/thriller/horror story (huge S.King and A.Christie fan), but I'm afraid I won't like this one. Sorry, dude, but I found your review more confusing than helpful.

Interesting takeaway from the review booknerd. Sorry it confused you so bad, but if it's not for you then it's not for you, that's okay. I enjoyed it greatly.

@Camartinsky I think I'll avoid the book too, the movie was bad enough.

You made the story sound very very interesting. I read quite a few post-apocalyptic stories, and I hope I would get the chance to read this one. Great review!
