I purposely take Dramamine so I can read in the car without getting sick. Of course, that will make you drowsy. There is a non drowsy kind but for those who get severe motion sickness like me, trust me when I saw the original Dramamine works best.

I love reading in the car. However I have found that if the bright lights on the e-reader are on in the car I feel a little queasy. I usually try reading in the "night mode" so that I don't feel as sick.

I wish there was some magical pill or something I could take so I would never get nauseous again while reading in the car. It's the perfect time to read without feeling guilty of thinking you should be doing the dishes,or laundry or something like that

I've never really had the issue. What am I supposed to do on long trips other than read, right? I thought my husband would be the same way (when someone else is driving us, of course), but he picked up one of his favorite novels on our most recent trip and put it down within a minute, saying it was making him sick. I'd never heard of this before.

If anyone's interested in the scientific reason why motion sickness is so common while reading in the car, it has to do with your ear canals. (I know, whaaaaat?) Basically, your eyes are fixed on the book or e-reader, zoning in on solely the words, but you can see the interior of the car, and possibly through the window, in your peripheral vision. You're also changing velocity and going over bumps, however, and your ears don't necessarily agree with this, so you get motion sickness.

Unfortunately, I have never been able to read while riding in a car. It just makes me feel sick. In fact, just thinking about it makes me feel almost sick.

Thank goodness no! Or long car trips would be way less tolerable.

That used to happen to me, but I somehow overcame the signals my body was telling me.

I cannot read for more than 15 to 20 min while travelling. I get sick immediately . Guess it must be because of the continuous jerks and the eye straining :( If I close my eyes and sit then I start feeling better.

Most of the time I do not get sick in the car. Sometimes when I go no an extremely long trip or am reading for most of the time I get sick. I have to say though getting car sick is not a big problem for me.

I do! And it's so annoying. There's times when I take extensive road trips and would love to use that time to finish a good book, but the sickness isn't worth it. I haven't found any remedy that works. I've been thinking about possibly trying an audio book while I'm in the car though.

Yep, me too. I almost never get sick when I am traveling, but if I read - always. And this is if I read in car or in bus, but never in train:)

I have never experienced this myself to the complete bafflement of my friends and family. But it is something I have heard complained about a lot and "Jammie" the author of "The Perpetual Page Turner" blog (sorry I can't post links yet) in her post on Reading in the Car seems to have found a solution that works. She claims that she takes regular breaks to look up and address the driver and that gives her brain a break. Then she goes into the science of the matter. Hope this helps.
