This does sound like a very difficult book to sum up. I agree that the cover picture is misleading for this book. It sounds like a better representation might be adding a giant foot coming down to stomp on the broccoli and girl.

DaletheWhale you sounds like a very interesting person with a lot of stories to tell. Congratulations on what sounds like a zany book. This sounds like it would be an interesting read with the right warning. Like thimble, I also have a hard time reading books that are so realistic. It tends to take me longer to get through just because I'm sensitive to those types of books. I think with adding the words 'gritty realism' or some other similar warning somewhere on the jacket that would help prepare the reader better from the cheery cover picture. I will admit that the title and cover pic drew me to this review/book.

A few books come to mind for me that I would think qualify to social science fiction; definitely, Edward Bellamy's Looking Backwards: 2000-1887. I would also put Dani Kollin and Eytan Kollin's The Unincorporated Man and Kim Stanley Robinson's Mars Trilogy. By the above definition, the only series I can think of that fits is S.M. Stirling's Emberverse series.

Thanks for your post anonanemone. I will consider having stickers made that say , "'WARNING - gritty realism ahead!!!' or some other similar warning and stick them somewhere on the jacket. Sad fact is. . .very few people will probably read my book no matter what I stick on the cover. I think we writers all play the lottery. . .hoping our books go viral. But the odds are soooooooo slim.

I guess the internet and explosion of self-publishing have both increased the chances of authors and worked to leave most books lost in a sea of choices. Good luck with your book!
