No response from authors

Post by rachel_bruhn »

So, I am fairly new to this website and have been slowly working my way up the ranks as a reviewer. In the past month, I have had 2 authors not respond within one week to the private blurb I sent regarding their book. As a reviewer it is particularly frustrating to take the time to read a book and write a meaningful review for it to never be officially published. Similarly, part of the motivation in accepting books to review (aside from the enjoyment of just being able to read a new book) is being able to get paid for your time and effort. When authors don't respond, we don't get paid.

I am just curious if many other people have encountered the same issue.

The authors should indeed respond within that time period. After a week you should contact Scott and request closure by using the link added for this on your review team history page.

I have had this happen from time to time. In fact, last winter an author still hadn't responded to the ending blurb approval request after a month! I PM'ed Scott and the issue was resolved. After that, I stopped waiting so long. As Gail suggested, it's a good idea to contact Scott if there is no response after approximately a week.

I reached out to him already. In my history it shows that my review was accepted, but not published. It shows payment pending author acceptance of private blurb.

From what I understand, this is as far as it will go. I'm not sure if the author still has the ability to accept the private blurb after the review has been accepted (but not published), but it seems to me that reviewers aren't compensated unless the review is officially approved and published.

I am out $40 at this point for reviews not being published. This is beyond frustrating. I feel like we should get compensated for doing the work, even if the author doesn't review the blurb! One of my posts went straight to "not published" status as soon as I submitted it.
