Review of Resist by Tracy Lawson

I was absolutely impressed by this book. I began this book hesitantly since it was the second book in the series. However, within minutes I was completely engrossed in the world Lawson built. In my opinion, it is incredibly difficult to build an original dystopian government that is new and exciting while still fully embracing the idea of what a dystopian society consists of but Lawson manages this amazingly well.

In Resist the world has been taken over by increasing amounts of terrorism. In response to this terrorism the Office of Civilian Safety and Defense is formed, otherwise known as the OCSD. The OCSD releases a drug to the population called CSD in response to an airborne poison terrorist attack. However, through a series of events two teenagers, Careen and Tommy, discover than there was no terrorist attack and that the drug CSD is in fact a hallucinogenic aimed at controlling and enslaving the whole population. The story shows their journey as they try to fight and destroy the corrupt OCSD. However, the two teenagers find that the Resistance may be more than they had bargained for. Who will they be able to trust when the fate of society hangs in the balance?

Along with the unique original plot I especially enjoyed Lawson’s writing style. Her words flow well and easily. This helps to contribute to the very fast pacing that is seen within this book. Usually while reading dystopian novels I notice many slow moving scenes however, I found that while reading Resist I rarely had a moment while reading where I was bored or the plot was moving too slowly.

The aspect I enjoyed most about this book is the wide array of points of views that are shown. This book consists of many amazing side characters and we get to see from almost everyone’s point of view. This helped move the plot along well because not only do we get to read through the Resistance eyes but also through the eyes of the government. The various point of views also helped to develop characters as we get to read each character personally.

Overall, I would highly recommend Resist by Tracy Lawson and rate it a 4 out of 4 stars. It is an incredible dystopian novel and I can’t wait to read the rest of the series. If you love young adult, dystopian, or are just in the mood for a fun, fast-paced novel you should definitely pick up this series now.

Trust decrease as things goes beyond of what you expected to see.But how to find someone to trust??

Definitely! It's on my to-read list for 2016.
