The new book Lakeman by Dhruv Behl is a little novel with a touch of mystery, action and drama. This is a story about man without memories, who woke up in unfamiliar house. The mystery goes deeper as he realized that he is chased not only from secrets of his past, but also by very dangerous people.
The story was very fascinating. You start reading and you just can`t stop wanting to know what will happen next. I had a good time with the book. The main plot may not be very original but I think it is well written with a complicated subject.
The protagonist in the beginning is a man without name. He tries to learn about himself with the scarce clues he has available. And his journey isn’t easy. The main character goes with the flow (he’s left with no other choice most of the time) and doeswhat he is told. But there is some development in his character of course. Like the time when he devised his great plan…
In the end he is revealed as a kind man with family and friends. But let’s not spoil the story.
I enjoyed the book and I rate it 3 out of 4 stars. I recommend this book to people who love thrillers, stories about secret agents and short story lovers. It is nice book for the times when you want to relax or an interesting piece to read when you are traveling.
I don’t give 4 stars for several reasons. The author’s style is little blunt, it needs polishing. Like a reader I love a good description of the surrounding. What I mean is that the atmosphere, the landscape was presented in a very scarce manner. How is this possible? When you don’t know where you are, you pay extra attention to every little detail. And I would have appreciated a better description of the criminals as well. The whole “first gang” and “second gang” doesn’t sound so interesting.
What is irritating is the minor mistakes and repeats in the text. For example “I was very scared” is writhen six times in less than 9 pages. It is getting little boring, there are many others ways to say how terrified he is. There also was a mistake with the timeline of the actions. Something like – the meeting is at 10 o’clock, but when the next chapter starts it is 11 o’clock.
What I like in the end of the story is that it doesn’t have a completely a happy ending. I think the small touch of drama there made the plot interesting and realistic.
I don’t want to discourage you. I guarantee you a story full with action. You have a feeling that everything is happening in front of your eyes, like a movie. I hope the author will continue to write and improve his work.
