Blink to Share by Janus Bliss

I rate this book 2 out of 4.
With only twelve pages in total, this is a very short Erotic/Science Fiction story that can be finished in around an hour or so.
Our protagonist is Jasper, a man who came up with Project PeepShow, which are essentially contact lenses you can download apps to and control using hand gestures and blinking.
Blink to Share deals with Jasper recounting to his therapist some of the reasons he divorced his wife, Janus, with all the jealousy and cheating it entailed on both ends. Now, the fact that one of the characters shared a name with the author, coupled with the fact that the About the Author section says “Janus Bliss lives in an uneasy truce with her husband”, worried me at first. Thankfully, that fear proved to be unfounded since neither Jasper nor Janus were “right” or “the good guy” and were equally to blame about the divorce. But Jasper’s tale feels detached and rambling at times, since the author needed to include plenty of information in such a short amount of pages. Not to mention he’s lamenting his falling out with his wife during most of the narrative, even mid sex scene.
Speaking of which, the sex scenes in particular felt like reading a written version of a videogame, due to the use of “Augmented Sexuality” PeepShow app. This makes the sex scenes read as fun and interesting in places but mechanical and just going through the motions to earn an achievement unlocked badge at others. This quote sums it up quite nicely:
“Finish her!” said Jasmine, then giggled after she realized that was a famous phrase from the Mortal Kombat video games.
The story also has the problem of the story not having enough time to develop the characters beyond the barest sketch of personality, making it hard to care about them much. Also, one of the sex scenes involved the therapist and didn’t even make a mention of how unprofessional and unethical that is, which is a huge pet peeve of mine.
Overall it was an okay story. Not the worst thing I’ve read by a long shot but not the best either. It has some interesting concepts and it’s a very quick read, so if you find yourself with a little time to kill and enjoy graphic sex with science fiction flair, this could be for you. Alas, it wasn’t for me.
