Review: The Uninvited by Cat Winters

As with all of Cat Winters's books, this book released in 2015 is a mixture of fantasy, psychological thriller and historical fiction.
In short, the story centers around a 25 year old girl Rowan who has the gift of seeing the ghosts of loved ones. Unfortunately seeing the uninvited one usually means more impending death. And with the setting of the story, Rowan is going to have a very memorable encounter and surprising discovery.

Summary:
Setting: Set in Illinois, US, during the Great Influenza of 1918.
Plot: Interesting plot twist with the combination of the historical background.
Characters: The characters are dimensional and felt real enough.
Writing Style: Fluent, smooth and easy to read.
Emotions: Probably due the setting and the historical background of the story, it lends a gloomy and depressing feeling during the entire reading experience. The fictional elements are cleverly woven into the historical background, which felt real and captivating.
Overall: I enjoy Cat Winters's book immensely. Her writing style and plot had me fled through her books and left wanting more. Especially the historical background introduced in each of her books, is refreshing and eye-opening. I didn't know about the APL (American Protective League) and how the Germans were treated in US during that period of time (just after WW1, I believed) prior reading this book, but now I do!
