Icon I Heart Robot by Suzanne van Rooyen

Forgive the heart, I thought it appropriate

This book tells the story of Tyri and Quinn.

Tyri loves music, she plays the violin and wants to be accepted into the Junior Philharmonic Orchestra. Her mom, however, wants her to go into robotics, just like her.

Q.I.9.9., or "Quinn" is an android of the quasar class, meaning he's a "companion" droid. Abused by his owners he chose to go rogue and live in a droid sanctuary.

They meet and form a friendship that could literally change the way people see robots, forever.

I really like this book. The story poses a lot of questions. It explores personal rights, and what makes someone "human", and aren't we all more alike than not?

This could be described as a Romeo and Juliet type story...human and robot, but it's more, and less than that. At it's heart (hehehe) it's a bunch of people who think they're right, often times doing selfish and destructive things to further their "cause". Not surprisingly the only ones who aren't fighting for a cause are the two main characters.

The opening line really set the whole story up for me
"If today were a song, it'd be a dirge in b-flat minor."
There are some typos, though nothing that I would say detracted from the book. Also, this is not " hard core" sci-fi, it's more about the situation than the science, and I should mention that the secondary characters could have been stronger, but I felt that the story, and the main characters more than made up for whatever faults there were. I do wish I could've been surprised by (no spoilers here), but I believe the reader is supposed to be aware of (no spoilers here) early on.

I rated this a middle four out of four. Her other book I read was a low four out of four for me.

If this sounds like something that would interest you, clicking on the cover will take you to it on Bookshelves :D

I really love the way this author uses music in her writing. It almost becomes tangible :D

So, did you hear music in your head while reading at all? Kind of like seeing the pictures/scenes while reading. That would be pretty cool.

I almost always do that. Is that weird? :shifty:

Also, the author included synesthesia, which I did not know, or expect, and was awesome.
Synesthesia is immensely interesting!
