What do you want the next giveaway prize to be?

Post by Scott »

As you probably know, we have done many giveaways at OnlineBookClub.org. Usually, the prize is either a well-rated book or a Kindle Fire Tablet.

On Feb 15th, I am going to launch a giveaway with the contest link sent only to those who have pledged to buy my book if I make a debut into fiction this year. The pledge isn't binding or anything, but it does act as a vote for me.

Since we do so many giveaways, it will also be good to know what kind of prizes might be preferred.

I have found a few potential prizes that look very cool to me. 8) However, if you have a different suggestion, please share.

When voting, keep in mind that if the selected prize costs less than the total budget for the giveaway, multiple prizes will be given away thus increasing each person's odd of winning. In other words, the economic value of the prize could trump total awesomeness of the prize, so to speak.

Prize Options
On giveaway day, the emails will be sent out one-at-a-time in the order the votes were received. It will only take a few minutes for the server to send out all the emails, but that still means those who vote first have the best chance of winning. The more people who vote overall, the bigger a prize I can select. So please click those share buttons too. :P

I vote for the Samsung Galaxy Tab myself. These are very awesome prizes! The winner should consider him or herself very lucky.

I voted for the Samsung Tablet, as I have the TabS 10.1 and love it. I'd like to see prizes like tablets and e-book readers be given away over TVs. I'd hate to think we'd lose an active member to the boob tube, but that's still a great prize regardless.

I honestly didn't read up on this contest completely, but ideas for other prizes, perhaps for other contests include copies of Microsoft Word or other software. Digital designing software and apps always come in handy for me as an illustrator, but there's also editing software and other programs authors/readers/illustrators would enjoy.

Another suggestion just overall, is perhaps a "reviews" link/thread in the forums for common software/apps and even services (KDP, Smashwords, D2D, FiverR etc) commonly used by authors. If you really want to go wild, links on the top (sticky) for requirements per each service, where new and veteran authors could compare/reference. Once I'm complete with my next book, I could help out with the threads, or participate in them if they already exist.

I apologize if my ideas above are off, or you already covered them elsewhere. My mind's been mush since as of late with researching, writing, and illustrating. I also want to jump in the forums to discuss old classics, and existing stuff from the recent past.

I noticed no votes for the kindle fire. Probably won't be one of the prizes but I'll vote for it. Does not really matter to me. No mater what all of them are great. Thanks for the chance. Ok tried to vote and can't figure out how to do it. I'll keep trying.

I would honestly be fine with gift cards that we can use for ebooks/at the bookstore! I'm never able to read the book of the month because my library doesn't have it and I'm a poor college student who'd rather pay off student loans than indulge in books.

I don't think anyone here would say no to book money :D

I'm emailing out an Amazon Giveaway link for a free paperback later today to those who have voted for me. This giveaway will have 1 in 50 odds, which is really good for an Amazon Giveaway.

Don't worry, this is not replacing the bigger prize planned for Feb 15th. This is in addition to it.

The prize this time will be The Vanishing Chemist by Peter Albert. Both that book and Peter Albert's other book Runaway were reviewed and recommended by our own official OnlineBookClub.org Review Team. :)

To be clear, with Amazon Giveaways, I will have prepaid for the prize, shipping and taxes. It is completely free to play and completely free to the winner.

I think giving away some books that have been officially reviewed by the OnlineBookClub.org review team is a great way to appreciate the generous work of the review team, help the authors like Peter Albert who make the review team possible and support this website, and say thank you to those who are encouraging me to write a story. Three birds, one stone, right?

***

I've been webmaster of OnlineBookClub.org for 10 years. I've never written a story. I really need the encouragement to give it a try. I've been so floored by the feedback for the short nonfiction books I wrote this year. I want to know if my friends think it is a good idea to make this debut.
