The Jericho Trumpet by Allen Watts is set in different locations across the world, ranging from Michigan to Tennessee, Switzerland, Germany and Israel. Wherever the story takes you, from the past in Nazi Germany, to the present in Detroit, Michigan, the plot twists are surprising and have you guessing at what will happen next.
Alex and Jacob Harvey are the owners of Harvey Financial in Bloomfield, Michigan. Their company is being investigated by the SEC. Keith Steiner has gotten the information and copies he needs, and is on his way to Tennessee for a hunting trip with his brothers. The Harvey brothers find out about the discovery and hire someone to “fix” the problem and bring the data back. Steiner has a hunting accident in Tennessee, or at least it was meant to look like an accident.
Austen Lester had gone to pick up his girlfriend Jessie King on his ATV to go watch the sunrise. He has a special day planned for them both. Unfortunately for them they run into the assassin as he is leaving the scene, but they are on an ATV, maybe they can get away, maybe not.
Hiking along the Appalachian Trail on their way to South Cumberland State Park are Detective John Bethany and Dr. Anita Spears, both from Michigan on vacation. During their hike they hear emergency vehicle in the vicinity. AS they make their way to the scene of what seems to be just an accident they meet Sheriff J.B. Roden. While there another call comes in about a man killed in a hunting accident. They ask the Sheriff to let them help. Upon getting to the scene they quickly realize that the victim is one of their friends, and it is no accident, it is murder.
I give this book 3 out of 4 stars. There are numerous grammatical errors in the book that had me hesitating and re-reading lines and paragraphs to understand what it was trying to say. Aside from that the book was riveting. It kept you wanting to find out what happens next. The author creates the characters with personalities that bring them to life and put you in the middle of the action. I enjoyed knowing about the majority of the places written about in the book. I am from just outside of Detroit, Michigan and now live in Tennessee in the middle of the Smokey Mountains.
