"Eragon"... It left me speechless and not in a good way. All the characters were just wrong! Their appearance, personality, actions, JUST EVERYTHING!!!! I was so disappointed.

I was bummed by Atlas Shrugged. The book was much more emotionally intense than the movies. The main character really missed the mark.

I totally agree with you there. Was such a let down after a promising book series :cry2:

I was super disappointed in the first two Hobbit movies. So much so that I haven't even watched the third yet. I think they're great as movies, but as movies adapted from a book it missed the mark. It really didn't need a trilogy, and I get sometimes you have to add some stuff to make the movie more watchable to the audience, but come on! The main selling point for the second movie seemed like it was the elves, who showed up in a very short time frame in the book. And it really irked me when they changed the third movie title from 'There and Back Again' to 'The Battle of Five Armies' (again, the battle was a chapter in the book). :roll2:

I could probably keep going, but I'll just end saying that it wasn't my favorite adaption. Sorry for the rant!

I think my least favorite movie adaptation would have to be Odd Thomas. I was so looking forward to a ghost Elvis, but, alas, he was cut from the film. Completely ruined it for me.

The movie adaptation of 'Disgrace' by J.M. Coetzee was horrific. I thought it seemed promising with John Malkovich as David Lurie but I was so so disappointed.

As far as I'm concerned, "Winter's Tale" (based on Mark Helprin's novel) is one of the worst movies I've seen. I used to have a personal rule to NOT view a movie made from a story I liked, but over the past few years I decided that seeing the movie and reading the book would be interesting. And sometimes it is. But "Winter's Tale" was not only badly done, it was embarrassing. I had two friends go with me. One of them had started the book, and I figured seeing a good movie would help her to engage in more reading. The other hadn't read the book, but was thinking about it. I had been telling them how many times I had read the book and how much I loved it. They laughed at me through the whole movie. I guess I should give them credit for not walking out before it was over ;-)

The first thing that comes to mind is Eragon. While the books felt like a fan fiction off of The Lord of the Rings, the movie made it worse.

I love you first this!

First of all, Legolas was no where in The Hobbit... second of all, there wasn't a love interest mentioned for Legolas, ever. The rest of the stuff the made up for the movies disappointed me... and all that CGI made it feel like I was watching someone play a video game. Peter Jackson did wonders with the Lord of the Rings movies, but he failed with The Hobbit

Thank you!! I felt like I was being too much of a book snob about it. No one else I know that has read the book seemed to be as disgruntled as I was.I was worried that they were going to have Legolas do Bard's big deed (trying not to post a spoiler), that I was terrified to see the third one. I get that he had to appeal to the masses, but I think he alienated some of the book lovers with that trilogy. Though I did appreciate the dwarven songs in the first movie!

Lord of the Rings was by far the better installment book wise, but of course nothing beats the actual books. :)

Most movie adaptations are extremely disappointing. Recently, the Divergent series by Veronica Roth was a significantly disappointing adaptation.

Oh gosh, I don't know if I can pick a most disappointing one. I think the Harry Potter films probably were the worst for me. I like almost all the movie adaptations that I've watched, but I liked them as something separate from the books. I usually come out of a movie with something my grandmother said to me about the Hobbit films in mind: "It was a very good movie, it reminded me a lot of this book I read called The Hobbit". That's how I feel about most adaptations. They're close enough to remind you of the books, but they're also so far off that if you go in a huge fan of the books, you come out horribly disappointed.

Divergent. And possibly The Maze Runner. If I have read a book and the movie is coming out, I usually refuse to even look at the commercials or trailers because it sometimes will mess up my picture of what the characters look like. In the Maze Runner, I enjoyed the characters looks, but the movie did not have as much suspense as the book did. The movie felt rushed and the plot felt forced.
In Divergent, I did not picture Tris as being very pretty, and Four was supposed to be rougher looking. I don't know, the books are always better. Always.

I find that all movie adaptations tend to be disappointing. They never truly explore the finer details that a book can.

When a movie comes out I will always read the book first. Then the movie is more a fun way of seeing someones interpretation of the book.
