I used to recommend Rick Riordan, author of the Percy Jackson series, because of the humourous touch he puts into his writing. However, he's been using the same idea too much lately and it's become... redundant and plain, and mostly unbelievable. I have trouble diving into his world now. Other than that, I'm growing quite fond of Marissa Meyer's writing style, although I'm don't particularly like ''Cinder''; I'm impatiently waiting for ''Heartless'' to come out, which I bought on pre-order! :)

It depends on the genre the person wants to read, but I mostly recommend Agatha Christie, because I know anyone would love her books!

Kimberley McCreight. Although she has only two novels so far (Reconstructing Amelia and Where They Found Her), she already has a reputation for being an across-the-board fiction writer. Her books are mysteries in nature but full of suspense with more twists and turns than a roller coaster. I always recommend her to anyone wanting to try a new author.

I have alway found that I recommend Anne McCaffrey. Her books have so much adventure in them I just get swept away. If you enjoy science fiction books, you might just enjoy her work.

@Megz, McCaffrey introduced me to fantasy, which remains my favorite genre. The Harper Hall Trilogy definitely holds a place in my heart. I couldn't agree more about recommending her for any sci Fi/fantasy fan.

I normally recommend actual books instead of authors, but my all time favorite author would be Jodi Picoult. So much research goes into each of her books and she has this amazing ability to write in a way that causes the reader to form a deeper connection with the characters. Every single one of her books sends me on an emotional roller coaster and I am usually in tears by the end. Some of my other favorite authors would be J.K. Rowling (Who isn't a Potter fan?!), Cassandra Clare, and John Green.

I'm so glad to have found this thread. I really like the responses that not only include the name of the author but what genre he/she writes and some books to get started on... Plus, the first response to the thread is my all-time favorite author, Fyodor Dostoevsky!

Jodi Picoult and Nicholas Sparks are the two I am always raving about. I have read all of their books at least twice and I love everyone of them.
