The Stuff: The Stuff No One Told Us About Life After Sexual Abuse was written but Edna J. White. This book is a combination of personal stories, research on the topic, and self-help information. White does a good job of telling victims of sexual abuse how it can affect their lives and how it doesn't have to stay that way. She also breaks down sections of the book into areas based on what one may be feeling or thinking or going through because of the abuse. She also talks about what types of things get affected because of the abuse, for example intimate relationships later in life.

White begins by vaguely telling of her abuse. She does not mention who the abuser is, just that they are a "father figure" and a "family member." She discusses how, later in life, the abuse suffered as a young child can manifest itself in your adult life. White explains some facts and myths about child sexual abuse which are pretty accurate.

Some of the things that didn't really appeal to me were the research type sections. Although going into the book I knew it wasn't going to be just a book on the author's abuse and how she overcame it, I would have liked more of it to be about her life and not about the facts of abuse. I give this book 3 out of 4 stars. The overall structure of the book was well written and laid out. Even though there were some errors the book wasn't unreadable.

If you are looking for a book about the facts and how you are able to overcome the abuse I would recommend this book to you. White does a really good job of getting that across to the reader. On the other hand, if you are looking for a book about one specific individual who over came their abuse and abuser then this book isn't for you. If you don't care either way then I would say go for it, you probably won't be disappointed.

Overall, I believe White accomplished what she intended to accomplish when writing this book. As I stated before White does a good job of detailing different areas that are affect by the abuse which is very helpful whether or not you are a victim. I was pleased more than I was disappointed in this book. I would recommend this book.

Nice, insightful review! You did a good job of highlighting the strengths of the book, while pointing out the things you would have liked to be emphasized more. Well done. :)

Sounds like a good book. However, I don't feel comfortable reading about sexual abuse or any other kinds of abuse for that matter. Good job on the review.
