Gifted by J.A. George is the first installment of a four part series called The Hayven Series. This young adult fantasy gets 4 out of 4 stars from me. Gifted is unlike any other teenage fantasy book I have read before. Most supernatural books for young adult readers seem to focus on romance and forbidden love, making them all blend together in a terrible pile of sap. Gifted, on the other hand focuses on a teenage girls journey to another world in hopes of saving it, while also leaving hope for a little romance in the future.

Ava went away from home in London to attend Huxton University. She sees herself as a bland boring college student and has some self-esteem issues. One day, Ava was caught out in a storm and decided to take the alleyway as a shortcut. The alleyway leads to her to witness a horrible death in a local bookstore, causing Ava trauma and confusion. Ava wakes up in the hospital the next day with more questions than answers. All seems well until a dinner date with her doting parents leads Ava to learn the old lady who died in the bookstore left her with the gift of reading minds. The noise from everyone’s brain is too much for Ava and she returns to the bookstore in search of answers. Instead of the answers Ava was hoping for, she finds a new friend named Theo. Once Theo learns about Ava’s secret, he then introduces her to a beautiful new city called Hayven, which just happens to be part of another world. With this new world comes a group of incredible new friends and a few foes as well. Come to find out the future of Hayven is in danger and it is up to Ava and her new friends to save it. To be continued…

Gifted is beautifully written and so very vivid. It is a nice escape to a whole new world with memorable characters and adventures. The story is very easy to follow and an easy read for almost anyone. I could not put this book down! I am excited to read the rest of this memorable series. As stated before, this story line is different from all of the other young adult fantasy books. Gifted stands out from the crowd with it’s front to back mystery, suspense, and humor.

Gifted was released in April of 2016 and J.A. George is currently working on the next book in the series which will be titled “The Silver Orb”. J.A. George is an avid reader and blogger. It seems as though The Hayven Series is J.A. George's big break and I cannot wait to read more.

I highly recommend Gifted to anyone, no matter what age. This book is the perfect escape from our day-to-day busy lives. If you want to be taken on an adventure that transports you from your seat to a new world full of new opportunities and a brush with danger Gifted is the perfect read for you.

This is a great review! This book seems way different than other young adult fantasy books. It seems to have a good storyline not conjested with romance. I think I'll like it.
