It may sound cliche but the author that got me started was J.K. Rowling. I was in third grade and my teacher was huge Harry Potter fan, he even made a little activity during the beginning of the year that including using the sorting hat! My aunt had bought me the entire set for a birthday a few years before, and my mom had read a little each night to me and my sister. So in 3rd grade I decided that since my classroom was decorated in Harry Potter things and I had the set, that I should start reading the book myself. My teacher was so proud and made a huge deal that I had finished the first book on my own. Now in college, I read any type of book, and during the summer that means I can go through at 5-6 books!

Franklin w dixon started it for me as a toddler when i grew up reading the Hardy Boys...thereafter Naipaul and his masterpieces have held me bonded with this wonderful habit of reading as the authors and their compilations have gone by over the years.

I think it started with the Hardy boys many years ago.

I would say Enid Blyton really got me into the fascinating world of books. But it was other books before that too. Books I read as a child. The dog eared picture books. The books iny grandma's cupboard, which I would beg her to read for me. The old ancient books were fascinating.

Predictable and clichéd though it maybe, the first 'proper' author I read, or at least can remember reading, was J K Rowling. I used to devour children's books though when I was little, before I started reading Harry Potter with my mum, but that was really the first book that made me LOVE reading.

I was reading on a college level in the third, so I don't really remember, but I do have fond memories of sneaking Mark Twain books from the older kids' reading section in the school library. I never took them anywhere, I'd just find a corner to sit in and read til they caught me and tried to tell me I wasn't old enough to be reading them.lol

I know I've always loved reading, but at first it was only for the AR reading the school made us do. Thank goodness I've grown out of that phase or I would never love reading as much as I do now! The author that really got me into reading was Rick Riordan. I started reading the Percy Jackson series in 4th grade, and I thought Wow! These books are amazing! Let's find more books like this! After that, I found the Hunger Games, the Warriors Series, Divergent, the Illuminae Files, and more! Thank you to the authors that created the worlds I can escape to when the world is going crazy. Now excuse me... I have a book to read... :techie-studyingbrown:

I really don't know one specific author that sent me off, but I grew up reading Boxcar Children by Gertrude Chandler Warner, Nancy Drew by Carolyn Keene... and a lot of you guys reminded me about the Magic Tree House series too! Loved those! I started getting into other mystery stories authors too, like Mary Downing Hahn and Mary Higgins Clark.

I've always adored reading, even from a young age. However, I would have to say that in 2nd grade I fell in love with the Junie B. Jones books by Barbara Park. Having just begun to read longer books I enjoyed reading the light-hearted books immensely! To this day I still have all of her books wrapped up in a box and I hope to share them with my kids someday.

For me it was Sidney Sheldon. Reading SIdney Sheldon's novel used to make my day better. I really miss reading more of Sidney Sheldon stuff...

I have been reading for as long as I can remember, growing up my first favourite book was my nursery rhymes, I had it memorized from front to back. I moved from nursery rhymes to the entire Dr. Seuss and Robert Munch collections. I fell in love with mystery reading Nancy Drew and the Hardy Boys. And the Brontë sisters opened my eyes and world to the classics.

Dr. Seuss. His writing doesn't hold as much room for discussion as Roald Dahl, Louis L'amour or JK Rowling, but anybody who's guided a child on their first steps to literacy will remember those formative years.
