It went up recently in the Budget but 1.45 a litre is still shocking, i thought i had a slow leak in one of my tyres today and thats why she was drinking the petrol but it turned out to be simple maths- more needed since the price rise. A tenner used to be ok for my toing and froing during the week but i have had to up it to 15euro now.

Thats still an extra 5 during the week and an extra 10 for the weekend, a significant rise. I dont have a long commute to work, probably unlike you, but its still a fair extra whack.Fran wrote:Well lucky you ... I spend 30+ a week on the dam stuffStephenKingman wrote:The price of petrol![]()

A foreign holiday when i was growing up was a rare treat every 3, maybe 4 years and that was it. Mostly the sights of Ireland kept us happy. In later years i have traveled a bit but not nearly as much as a huge amount of younger people. This may come across a misery old man tirade but its genuinely not, and im aware that many people have rich or comfortable parents to fund their trips but the same people who are detailing their exploits in places from Sweden to Egypt are the ones who are moaning about being broke. It would take me years of savings to afford the trips to even half the places they have been to. I just find it very bizarre.

I mean, where the hell is all the money coming from to have been to so many countries (taking in the cost of hotels, food, tourist attractions etc) and have that much experience of the planet so soon in life.

Ah but Mike 'sure we were happy' .... I would say the answer is Daddy & the Celtic Tiger (RIP)
The only note I would add is they may have been to a lot of places but how 'well travelled' are they ... as in how much did they experience of other cultures, peoples, countries etc. You don't learn a lot about Spain lying on a beach .. might as well be in Tramore

1) Ryanair
2) Couchsurfing
I have friends who use these and travel to a lot of places and are anything but wealthy. They save the money during a year, don't spend them around on hundreds fancy clothes and restaurants. You can find really great flight ocasions nowadays.
There are also working programms in other countries too.
PS. Fran, Spain is much more than beaches

I'm going with a friend who I traveled a lot with already and we're going to visit different cities.
We plan to see all the tourist atractions, but some sangia is in our plans too. I believe there's place for everything when you travel, sightseeing and fun.
But it's true, it's not so easy to find good travel companions nowadays, as most just want to lye on a beach

Haha, Mike, I don't have. But they were willing to give
