She's threatened by you I'm sure you're doing a great job and making her work harder to keep up appearances.

The price of petrol

It went up recently in the Budget but 1.45 a litre is still shocking, i thought i had a slow leak in one of my tyres today and thats why she was drinking the petrol but it turned out to be simple maths- more needed since the price rise. A tenner used to be ok for my toing and froing during the week but i have had to up it to 15euro now.

Thats still an extra 5 during the week and an extra 10 for the weekend, a significant rise. I dont have a long commute to work, probably unlike you, but its still a fair extra whack.

Luckily I have requested to never be put with her so I hope that helps.

Not so much a rant as a ..confusion. Where do the young people of today get so much money to have traveled the world before they hit 25. Now im well aware of J1 visas and cheap package holidays etc and i know many youngsters are savvy with websites and offers etc but it seems so many of them have been absolutely everywhere and they are still so young. Example- i work with 5 or 6 women in the lab who are forever booking holidays in their spare time and they constantly mention "Oh when i was in Vegas it was great, that was just before we did a tour of Asia and India on the way home!" or conversations of the ilk "Oh I didnt like that particular beach when i was in South Spain, the one by Nice in France has better pubs and nightlife". I mean, where the hell is all the money coming from to have been to so many countries (taking in the cost of hotels, food, tourist attractions etc) and have that much experience of the planet so soon in life.

A foreign holiday when i was growing up was a rare treat every 3, maybe 4 years and that was it. Mostly the sights of Ireland kept us happy. In later years i have traveled a bit but not nearly as much as a huge amount of younger people. This may come across a misery old man tirade but its genuinely not, and im aware that many people have rich or comfortable parents to fund their trips but the same people who are detailing their exploits in places from Sweden to Egypt are the ones who are moaning about being broke. It would take me years of savings to afford the trips to even half the places they have been to. I just find it very bizarre.

Ah but Mike 'sure we were happy' .... I would say the answer is Daddy & the Celtic Tiger (RIP)
The only note I would add is they may have been to a lot of places but how 'well travelled' are they ... as in how much did they experience of other cultures, peoples, countries etc. You don't learn a lot about Spain lying on a beach .. might as well be in Tramore

Two things:
1) Ryanair
2) Couchsurfing
I have friends who use these and travel to a lot of places and are anything but wealthy. They save the money during a year, don't spend them around on hundreds fancy clothes and restaurants. You can find really great flight ocasions nowadays.
There are also working programms in other countries too.

PS. Fran, Spain is much more than beaches :)

Swing that's exactly my point ... you'll never learn the flamenco on the beach!

But you can learn it in a bar
I once met a group of mounted police officers who were also belonging to a flamenco group and showed us some moves :D

Hey.....Tramore also has the great and famous Freddies arcade :D Maybe you are right, as well as Swing, about only fleetingly visiting these places by means of the cheap and not cheerful Ryanair and i know many of them did travel in packs to save money but i just find it strange that they could have even had the time to do all that in 25 years. I personally when on holiday want to see ALL the tourist attractions, sample all the local food and meet the locals, just to make the most of the experience. Going to Turkey or Spain etc just to drink 24hrs a day is a total waste in my opinion, its a bit sad that so many young people want to go on holiday just to drink. I like a few but only to compliment a holiday, not to fill it. With the death of Mr Tiger, maybe holidays will be more of a treat.

Ooh-Swing, have you got the numbers of the police guys

On Tuesday :D
I'm going with a friend who I traveled a lot with already and we're going to visit different cities.
We plan to see all the tourist atractions, but some sangia is in our plans too. I believe there's place for everything when you travel, sightseeing and fun.
But it's true, it's not so easy to find good travel companions nowadays, as most just want to lye on a beach

Haha, Mike, I don't have. But they were willing to give :P
