There's definitely a connection that the reader makes with Niamh! I think it is because we started to learn about her life when she was young and kind of grew up with her. It makes a big difference, especially comparing it with Molly's story when we just got small bits of her in her teenage years.Elaine5 wrote:I really enjoyed this book. I didn't know about the orphan trains before reading it and found it a fascinating subject to learn more about. I agree with those who said they enjoyed the flashback narrative most but I did really liked Molly in the present day story line. Niamh was the best part of the book for me. She was a character to get attached to!

I don't recall very much profanity. If there was, it didn't detract from the story.

AK413 wrote:I felt like the relationship between Molly and Vivian was a bit predictable, but still one of those feel good predictable moments that you would have been upset about if it didn't happen! I thoroughly enjoyed this book, although it was a bit unnerving to see the way those children were treated and to know that the behavior wasn't fictional. But that's why it was an important read, and not just an enjoyable one.
It was predictable but I would have been disappointed if they hadn't developed their relationship like they did.
