When I was very young, Judy Blume then as a teen Stephen King. And, I rarely read in the genre now. But I have to say, it gave me a love and passion for reading.

In elementary school, Judy Blume was the first author who I eagerly searched for during our weekly library period. I had to read all of her books that they carried in school. I ended up reading her other books through middle school.

Loren Eiseley.
It was serendipitous that I picked up a book of his titled Night Country in a used book store. At the time, I was into reading things that felt human/poetic/philosophical and this book hit the mark. I looked for everything he had written, and actually just went back to Star Thrower that has my favorite story...The Innocent Fox.

Julie Garwood is by far my favorite author. She has a way to create situations and characters that are so multifaceted. Her stories just flow, and they are filled with intrigue, humor, romance and historical facts. I have purchased her entire historical romance collection and reread them at least once a year.

Is anyone else a fan, and if so, who else would you recommend as a comparable author?

If you love Julia Quinn, may I suggest Catherine Coulter and Julie Garwood, as comparable authors? The ladies both write books you wont forget and will read and reread for years to come.

well first off before anyone judges my author I NEED to say that I never saw any of the movies before just read his simple admiring words from his books, needless to say it is John Green. After reading one of his books I had to read all, it was my biggest mission to see what other amazing books he had in store for my sophomore year of high school. :lol2:

Jill Mansell. All of her books are original stories. British Chit Lit, and so good. She is masterful at creating multiple characters and having you care about all of them. Plus she neatly ties up all of her lose ends to give each book a happy ending for everyone involved. I haven't read them all yet, but I squeal in delight when I get my hands on another one of her stories.

Amelia Atwater-Rhodes. I was in my teens and could understand her way of thinking/writing, but who really inspired me to venture our was Amanda Ashley. She writes vampire romance and other romance/erotic novels but I can honestly say, aside from the romance/sex, I did dive into research about little details and venture out to different genre styles from reading Amanda Ashley novels.

I was introduced to books by my mother's friend. Enid Blyton was my first ever author. I just could not stop myself from reading the next book and its next and so on. And I have totally completed "Famous Five" and "The Secret Seven" series. I love the way she wrote all these children stories which inspires and makes a child brave and bold.

The first series I ever read was Harry Potter. These books came out when I was in the prime age for mystery, suspense and magic. I love the story lines and realistic characters. My children are at a young age where anything over 10 pages with no pictures will not hold their interest. However, I can see the thrill that crosses their face when they get a new book so I am holding out hope they will be avid readers like I am.

The Kids of Polk Street School by Patricia Reilly Gif were my absolute favorite books as a kid!! I remember going to the library and checking out three at a time (that was the max we could take out). I couldn't get enough of them. I even remember getting in trouble in the first grade for reading during class :D

Greetings! I think the first author I had to read "everything" by was Stephen King. My father collected his books so there were a lot to choose from and yet I still have not read them all. The Shining and Cell were my favorites because they both so altered the way I looked at the world. Great question!
