Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children

By: Ransom Riggs

Read by: Jesse Bernstein

This wonderful and enchanting tale of adventure, mystery and suspense is a book that teens and adults alike will come to enjoy. It starts with young boy named Jacob who learns a secret that has been kept from him his whole life. After the mysterious death of his grandfather he thought to be insane due to some of the things he saw that night. He then goes to a small island in Wales to learn the truth of what he saw that night. There he discovers that he may not be as insane as first thought when he stumbles upon a long forgotten place that even time itself has forgotten. The wonders he learns here will change his life forever along with learning more about his grandfather he finds adventure, mysterious secrets, and even love along the way.

This book has been completely awesome and while the book is one I have wanted to read for a long time this has been one of the best books I have listened to since listening to the Harry Potter series. I have learned so much about the characters and have been able to explore the world with them. The format of the book is wonderful and allows the reader to imagine the characters on a mental big screen. The book is slated to be a movie I hardly see how it could compare to the actual book.

The descriptions of the characters and the locations in the book are fantastic and the overall adventure in the story is not only drawing, as in it draws you in, but also spine tingling with suspense. A book like this makes me personally want to hear more even when I need to do other things. I love following along on adventure after adventure to see what new thing will happen. The book is the kind that will make you feel like you are right beside the characters as they fight off evil and save the girl. This is wonderfully done.

The narrator did a wonderful job doing all the different voices of the characters and was able to really make the story come alive for me. Many books I have listened to have kept me from really enjoy the story because the voice was lacking in something or another. However, this time not only did it draw me in but it also made it so that I felt all the emotions that the character felt at each point of the story.

In closing this book is a wonderful story that really brings the world of Miss Peregrine to you in a way that no one else can. Between the author’s skills with the “pen” and the reader’s ability to make the book come alive better than a movie, I would have to give this book 4 out of 4 rating. I love every aspect of the book and really am glad to have read/listen such a book. Thank you Author and Reader for the wonderful world you have brought to me and millions of others.
