Depression

Post by Linaspjut »

Depression is a war
A battle against yourself
Every thought is a bullet
There is so escape
There is no light
A sea of emotions
Swallowing me whole
Engulfing me every second
Depression a war
And I am losing

A civil war it began
And only I was the wiser
I should have overcome it back then-
But my morale was weak
And I let it defeat me.

But slowly it grew
And mercilessly it spread
Until everyone I cared about
Was dragged in to the fight-
When I went down, I brought them all with me.

Alas! Now there is only regret
For I wish I had fought
To protect those I love
And they wish they had seen my struggle
And rushed to my defense.

A beautiful poem that accurately expresses being in the grip of this overwhelming disease! As someone with I history of depression, I advise you to keep fighting! The tide will turn, I promise!!!

Amazing emotional poem. I think this is definitely an accurate representation of depression as I've seen one of my friends struggle with it until she finally got better.

I feel this poem so much, and it is raw and beautiful. It paints a picture that many people understand in it's entirety and can relate to. I hope everyone that this poem speaks to continues to fight the good fight and know that you are not alone!

Beautifully written!

I have depression too. I've had it for a long time now, so I can at least give you the hope that after a while you get used to living with it. You can learn coping skills and how to live with it. This year I finally started therapy. I have a one-on-one therapist and I am also in a group of other people with depression. I wish I had done that years ago, because I have learned so much about coping with it through this that I am really beginning to feel like I can overcome it. I have medicine that I take too, but they say that if you do the medicine AND therapy that your chances of overcoming it are a lot greater. Here is to wishing you the best. I'll be thinking of you.
