Good luck learning about cricket. I'm an American living in Australia. When I first got here, I made an effort to get into cricket. Went to a few matches. Asked people about it. The main problem is that it is so overwhelmingly boring! Even if you learn the rules (which aren't hard) you will never be able to figure out why people actually play it. I kept asking people questions like, "So what?" or "And then what? Nothing?" and "Is that all?". Eventually they all stopped talking to me about it.
Anyway, very good review!

This sounds like such a fun book! I love the idea of an armor-off week, and it's no wonder our hero is impoverished if he's only earning 3 shillings and 6 pence a week!

Great review! This definitely sounds like something I'd want to read to my son when he's older. I am concerned about the suicide joke, though. Having personal experience with an attempt and ideation makes me very leery about jokes pertaining to that subject. I definitely want my son to understand what it is and all that, but not at such a young age.

Is it perhaps in a spot that could be skipped over?

Fantastic review! Fantasy, dragons, Wizards! Sounds exciting. Definitely can relate to your cricket reference, did you research it yet? I'll make sure I do before reading the book.Your review showed how much you were enjoying this book. You're right that it's nice to read a story just for fun without any morals or life lessons. Thank you for an enjoyable review. Now to see if my granddaughter has it yet. As for the use of mild language and the poor joke, sad that it wasn't avoided but honestly, it's hard to shelter our children these days from bad things. So maybe there is a little lesson in this book after all.

I love love this review. I would definitely enjoy reading this to my kid and maybe like it more.
I agree that suicide jokes weren't the best to incorporate in the children's book. Other than that, good job.
