How would this go over as a movie?

Post by greenstripedgiraffe »

I personally think this would go over better as a horror movie than a book. Some very intriguing ideas - pretty disturbing, but then horror movies usually push you over the brink into the realm of insanity, so this easily fits that.

Can you guys see it as a movie? Anything you would do to change/alter anything to make it fit better for the big screen?

Greenstripedgiraffe, I can see this book being a movie too. For some reason, I'm thinking of Jennifer Jason Leigh in the movie. Maybe it's because the author has a "Leigh" in their name, but partly because she played in the 1992 movie "Single White Female," a movie about deception, roommates, and murder. None of these things are quite like the events in *Unspeakable Acts* (or are they?) but I think the movie could show some flashbacks to the 1800s to give the viewer the necessary info about the previous owners of the house and the twisted motives that drive them to kill.

If anyone's seen the movie "An American Haunting," the adolescent girl from the previous century is seen in the mirror or in a passing glance as a way of letting the modern character and viewers realize there is a connection between the past and present, much like the book, *Unspeakable Acts.* I know it wouldn't appeal to a lot of people, but it definitely would to people who are creaped out by these unspeakable acts!

This is a good question. I can definitely see this as a Horror movie. If it were to be on the big screen, I would lessen the fun/carefree moments and focus on the creepy spooky ones instead. The love interests can still be there, but I feel the focus would need to be the past and dark moments in the present.

I definitely can see it as a movie. I too would make it a bit more spooky and cut out more of the fluffier (carefree) moments, because it would appeal more to the hard-core movie fans. Admittedly, as I read it, I couldn't help but see it as a movie in my head.

Thank you! As I was writing, it was running as a movie in my head! Hahaha.

I think it would make a very good movie and certainly can see it as such.

Me too! When I was reading, I was able to see the smooth transitions from the past to the present and back again. For whatever reason, I saw the past more vividly than the present...creepy!

I can see it as a movie because I had been picturing everything in my head while reading. However, I don't think I would be able to watch the movie, if it were made. I get scared so easily by horror movies and the book is already so scary!

I'm not sure I can see this book as a movie.

The way the book is currently edited it seems much creepier than any movie I've seen. As a book I can place almost any floor plan, in this case I was imagining something similar to my uncle's house. They renovated a few years ago and drastically changed the main floor plan (though no where near as much as Charlie's house). The next time I visit I feel like I'm going to be looking around corners and hoping they didn't hide/discover any secrets. In a movie that "what if" factor will be taken away because I'll be given someone else's imagining of the house. The mystery will be gone. It would certainly be a creepy movie but it wouldn't resonate and I wouldn't be talking/thinking about it later on. As is, I'm sure I'll be thinking about the book long past the BOTM discussions.

I think this would make a fantastic horror flick! It would be so much better than 'Paranormal Activity'.

I think this would really do good if adapted into a movie. I'd totally watch it. I've enjoyed the book and seeing in on the big screen would be a totally different experience. Maybe in time.
