I have to say that my go-to genre is romance or erotic romance. I am a sucker for a great love story and I especially love a story with steamy love scenes. I do enjoy the variety in this genre. I enjoy suspense thrillers with a romantic twist such as those by Allison Brennan, Lisa Jackson, Heather Graham, or J.A. Jance, to name a few. I enjoy paranormal romance with authors such as J.R. Ward and Karen Marie Moning. I love the down and dirty, pure erotic fiction of Lora Leigh, Lorelei James, Maya Banks, Emma Holly, and Sylvia Day. I would be remiss to not mention the classic romance novelists such as Nora Roberts, Catherine Coulter, Kathleen Woodiwiss, Johanna Lindsey, Robing Carr, and so many others. So many great books and so little time, what is a gal to do?kio wrote:For me, when I'm bored or need a new book, I usually go for a fantasy adventure or a mystery. It's even better if it has both mystery and fantasy. This is because I like the action, complex plots, and fantasy elements like magic, dragons, etc.
So my question is: What's the genre you return to over and over again? What is it you like about that genre the most?
My other genre of choice would have to be fantasy. I enjoy the works of Brandon Sanderson. I loved the Mistborn Trilogy, Elantris, and Warbreaker. Sanderson creates worlds that are intricate and imaginative. Other fantasy authors include Diana Gabaldon, Chris Evans, and of course J.R.R. Tolken and George R.R. Martin.

My go-to genre has changed over the years...early on it was always classic science fiction a la Isaac Asimov or Ray Bradbury. Then it was horror such as Stephen King and Dean Koontz. Then I branched out into more and more genres and types of writing. Today I would have to say I've been leaning towards supernatural (vampires/werewolves) and thrillers (mostly reading series such as Tom Clancy or Dale Brown) but I'm still a sucker for a good science fiction novel. To break things up I'll throw some nonfiction or literary fiction in between to actually keep my brain's gears turning.
