Wrong Turn, Right Guy by Haylie B. Fox is the story about a woman named Theresa who is searching to find happiness and balance in her life. The story is told from Theresa’s point of view and you can really feel the angst she feels as she goes through her journey. Along the way Theresa faces many obstacles such as career changes, location changes, and love life challenges which send Theresa into a tailspin.
The story begins with Theresa resigning from her job which has been her entire life for many years. As she heads off to Italy with her overbearing but well-meaning mother for a friend’s wedding, Theresa is completely stressed out with the fact that she no longer has a job. She is very methodical and has planned out almost every moment of their trip. Theresa’s frustrations grow as things never seem to go as she has planned. As Theresa and her mother explore the many historical sites in Italy she is continually stressing about the details of the trip and what is going to happen to her when she gets back to the United States. Things like her mother not eating breakfast and transportation issues seem to cause her great anxiety.
Theresa and her mother meet Alex and Luca midway through their Italian journey. Both men become very important to Theresa and become a big part of Theresa’s story. Fox did a wonderful job of illustrating the different relationships that Theresa develops with the two men, and it was fun reading about how those relationships grow. I also loved the author’s portrayal of Theresa’s relationship with her mother. It is very realistic in that you can tell her mother really has Theresa’s best interests at heart even though she at times gets on Theresa’s last nerve. The relationship is one that I think most people can probably relate to.
I enjoyed the pace of the story and at times I was swept away as Theresa describes the fabulous Italian scenery. Fox took the time to describe buildings and landscape with great detail so you felt like you were really there. The only issue I had with the story was the conclusion. It seemed to end very abruptly to me. Within a couple of pages it seems like her life goes from hopeless to perfect.
I did not find any spelling or grammatical errors so the book was edited well and very easy to read. The story was written in a way that was very easy to follow and flowed at a nice pace.
I give Wrong Turn, Right Guy 3 out of 4 stars and I would definitely read more books by Fox. I think that anyone who enjoys a good romance novel would enjoy this story. The only reason I gave the book 3 stars was because the ending seemed rushed to me.
