Thank you very much for your review. I agree with you on the smooth flow of the narration, but I differ in the descriptions, probably only a matter of taste, or perhaps my interest in learning descriptions makes me value what is too much for others.
I think this book must be a very good read.

It is a good review. The story of Flaherty's Crossing is very touching. Kate is facing the imminent death of her father. Then on the other hand her marriage to Drew is falling apart. How much can one person face. You are living in the same home but in different homes. Drew and Kate's careers had consumed each of them.

Layered, complex characters are one of my favorite things to read in a novel! Plus, a good unexpected twist or turn in the plot really makes me swoon. Great review!

I definitely want this on my 'want to read' shelf. The beginning on Amazon caught my attention and the official review is excellent.

Read the sample and it didn't seem like it would be something I would want to read. Your review makes it sound like it's an interesting book. Great job on the review.

I've found I enjoy alternating chapters between characters, but only if it's well done. I always hate it when I want to get through a chapter :(

Thanks everyone for the nice feedback! Gravy, the alternating points of view in this book were a great way to see the husband's side of their marital problems. Even though I enjoyed Kate's chapters more, the alternating format was still well done and gave depth to the story. It's just that there were several aspects of the plot that applied more to her character such as issues from her childhood, the diner incident and its aftermath, etc.

I read the opening section and found the scene with the dying father to be very moving. I like the fact that the rest of the book appears to be equally complex and nuanced. Thanks for the review.

Nice review. The story sounds quite emotional, and from the review I can guess it would have been quite an interesting read.

The story is an interesting one, and the free sample can certainly hook one's attention all right. I found some parts rather drawn out, but that was just me. I like your review, it was very thorough and didn't put out many spoilers at all. I hope to read the book some day although I'm still uncertain how I feel about it. Maybe I'll get to read some of your other reviews in the future.

Wow, thanks for the great review! This sounds like a wonderful story told in a spellbinding fashion. I think that we can all relate to stories regarding relationships and this book covers many bases. Parents, adult children, couples and spouses. other relatives and career -- the whole gamut! The only thing I didn't hear mentioned was pets. I'm looking forward to this reading to find out if the marriage is considered worth the effort of fighting for, how the family dynamics promote healing and the directions of both careers.

Congrats to the author on a job well done and BOTD!

Seems like this book will be a very good read. Poor Katie seems like she is going through some really tough times, hope she gets it worked out. Look forward to reading more and seeing what happens.
