Kung Fu Panda Review

Post by miarose »

Kung fu Panda
Executive Producer: Bill Damaschke

Kung fu Panda is a movie of adventure, excitement, martial arts, lessons learned, and great for all ages. This most likely should be awarded with 4 gold stars, for really, what is so bad in it? It has amazing characters that make the animation seem alive, it not only is a fantastic kid movie, but teens and parents enjoy watching it too. It is filled with comedy and fun stunts and yet it still has a storyline a plot a problem faced needing to be solved. Movie watchers should go watch Kung fu Panda because of its great casting, family friendliness, funny entertainment, and the moral dilemma.

The casting of Kung fu Panda is good because the actors that play the characters make them themselves. They transform into the characters for example, Jack Black (Po), Dustin Hoffman (Shifu), Angelina Jolie (Tigress), and Ian McShane (Tai Lung) are all great examples. From the movies special features in the “Meet the Cast” section the actors describe their characters and the other actors’ characters. Jack Black says, “I’m just being myself.” And another cast member says, “It’s a character that’s really believable.” One of the cast says, “He just makes you believe anything” about Dustin Hoffman who plays Shifu in the film. “Angelina brought this amazing warmth and soul to the character” is how Tigress is described. And last Ian McShane who plays the bad guy of the film is said that, “He comes in as the nicest guy in the world, then he becomes Tai Lung” and then one of the other actors thinks that, “He’s horrifying!” And there are the many examples of why this movie has great casting, which very much contributes to the overall quality of the movie.

Next is the family friendliness in the movie. This movie is great for people of all ages, it is appropriate and doesn’t influence kids in a bad way (unless afterwards they want to learn Kung fu). To show its appropriateness there is one or two scenes that may be questionable, and some parents may want to make a judgment of their own, but they basically seem reasonable. While Po is first starting his training he falls into this area of swinging bars and he gets hit in an inappropriate place and says, “Oh! My tenders!” Now the way this is depicted doesn’t seem that inappropriate that will be bad for children. Also there is one questionable word you may not want your child repeating at one sequence in the movie.* “I probably sucked more today than in the history of kung fu… in the history of China…in the history of sucking.” Other than those few sequences this is most definitely a great movie for all ages.

Entertainment is another qualification that makes a good movie good. Kung fu Panda is a very entertaining movie. It keeps you laughing throughout the entire film. At the beginning a fun quote that the movie starts with is, “Legend tells of a legendary warrior whose kung fu skills were the stuff of legend.”* Another fun quote is that of the two Kung fu masters. “But who? Who is worthy to be trusted with the secret to limitless power? To become the Dragon Warrior?” “I don’t know” .* The third sequence that shows this movies entertainment is at the end when Po and Tai Lung are fighting. Tai Lung says, “You… cannot possibly defeat me! You… are just a big…fat…panda! Po replies “I’m not a big fat panda…I’m *the* big fat panda.”* This movie is very entertaining, but you really have to watch it and see how well it’s made and the characters voices with the quotes to completely grasp the comedy.

The fourth thing is the moral dilemma in the story. Po, the main character, is called to be a hero, but he doesn’t believe he has what it takes and then he figures out that he just needs to be himself. “There is no secret ingredient.”* This may not connect kids as much as they realize, but it could inspire them to pursue their dreams or understand that they don’t have to be a superhero, only themselves. Therefore you can see with this moral dilemma it really helps develop a good story line although kids may not always see it.

Therefore again, movie viewers of all ages should go watch Kung fu Panda because of its casting, family friendliness, entertainment level, and moral dilemma. The casting brings great character and life to the story which contributes to the family friendliness and appropriateness for all ages. The entertainment also works together with this to bring forth a great movie. Last the moral dilemma gives great plot and a great storyline. Reading this should spur an inspiration to go watch this fun, wonderfully entertaining, very good movie, so now will you?

I really liked the movie, specially the moral was very strong.
I remember one line from the movie when po gets his kung hu training, his master tells him that yesterday is a history, tomorrow is a mystery but today is a gift that's why its called present. So live every moment of this present. I personally found it very moving.
So it was a very good watch.
