I'm a huge science fiction fan so it's no surprise that I chose to read this book. When the action starts off in the very first chapter, letting me know that I was in for a fun read. The pace fluctuates a bit throughout the book. One minute it's fast and I'm on the edge of my seat the next it is kind of slow and I'm wishing it would just end already. I'm the type of person that gets bored with a book very easily so I think the action would pick back up at the right times, every time.

I felt sorry for Rynah in the beginning when Klanor betrays her. I know that had to be hard to see the man you're supposed to marry trying to kill you and everyone else you care about. As the story went on I quit feeling bad for her, though because I really didn't like her as a character. I felt myself liking Solaris more and she was the freaking spaceship. I was shocked when the story started and I realized that the book is named after the ship. Solaris was great, I really liked how sassy she was with the other characters. Tom was another favorite of mine especially when he tried to lighten the mood using shadow puppets. Solon and Brie were the most believable to me. I hated Brie because she was so whiny and cowardly but it actuality that made her feel the most realistic. Solon was so quiet and always had his head in the clouds, just like me so I can't say anything bad about him. Alfric was a strong character that was very much needed in the story.

I didn't like how little the characters seemed to care about where they were. All of the characters barely batted an eye to seeing a girl with lavender skin and emerald hair and that confused me so much. How can they not seem to care about being taken aways from their homes, time periods, families, and especially their planet? I understand why Alfric wasn't scared, he was a warrior so very little scared him. I didn't buy that Brie was scared of everything was so fine with this. Also, they didn't seem to even care about Solaris. These people haven never been on a spaceship before so I thought they would be more interested in it.

The cover is very colorful which I really liked. However, it made it look very childish the more that I looked at it. After reading it, it absolutely could be a middle-grade book but I didn't think that was the target audience. It would be perfectly fine as a middle schooler book, though. In fact, I'm thinking about telling my cousins about it.

I gave this book a 2 out of 4 stars because it lacked a lot of descriptions that I craved. Science fiction needs a lot of descriptions in my opinion and it just wasn't there. It made it very difficult for me to picture everything that was happening because I felt disconnected from the story. The author's overall writing style was good but that didn't make up for the descriptions for me.
