The Royal Secret investigates the claim that Shakespeare’s works were in fact written by Francis Bacon and that Shakespeare was an illiterate who provided a cover for Francis in order to protect his life. It is cleverly written to tell the story whilst simultaneously running a modern-day investigation by a fictional Mrs G. Not many books have me thinking about them when I’m not reading them but this one did. Recommended for anyone interested in history and real life cover-ups.

I think you mean: occultism. That refers to dangerous people using dark powers to further their ends. It can also refer to the kinds of antics Satanists and witches in covens can get up to ... Black magic, etc.

Excellent review. I am interested in reading how the author ties the two time periods together as you mentioned. I know very little about the Templar Knights and the time with Queen Elizabeth I. Thank you for sharing.

I found mysteries extremely interesting, as they should be, and this one seems great, in this book i've special interest in what the author has to talk about the Tudor Dinasty.

I really hope this book meets the expectations i have for it, the period of time in which this story takes place really intrigues me and i want to found out more about it but the quality of the narration is everything in a novel so that might be a bummer. Thanks for your review anyway!

Thanks for giving a detailed review. Halting narratives and strange tangents leave me wanting more as well. I do like historical fiction, though, so I may read this book after all.

The historical parts of the book sound fascinating! Sounds like the author just needed a bit more polishing to make the book absolutely stellar.

This sounds like an intriguing premise, but I don't think I will be spending my time reading a book that has confusing passages.
