I've only met a handful of authors, and none of them have been of the famous kind. Most have been local...

I was blessed enough as an awkward middle school kid to meet Terry Brooks, who is one of my all time favorite authors. He did a book signing in the little town I was living in as a favor to the Waldenbooks store manager at the time. She invited a small group of the little geeky book kids to meet him at a little lunch.

At at time when I was feeling the most uncool, he gave me a glimpse of what a geeky little kid could be in her future. It also helped that it was the talk of the town that a small group of kids got to meet him. lol

I was also able to meet the author and the artist of the illustrations of a book called, Goodbye, My Island, that was very popular regionally. Such gracious women.

Laurell K. Hamilton did a book signing at the store I was working in. It was an interesting day and she was very nice.

One of my favorites is Aimee Riley, the author of Tears of Hope. I have yet to read her book, though I have a signed copy, but she is an incredible lady.

Anything books is good with me! =)

I've met and interviewed many authors over the years. My favorite has to be Richard Dawkins, author of "The God Delusion" and "Unweaving the Rainbow," amongst others. A few weeks ago I met William P. Kennedy, who writes under the pseudonym “Diana Diamond.” He figured out, long ago, that women wouldn’t buy the type of book he writes if they thought it was written by a male.

The thing is, I really enjoy signed copies by authors. I probably have about 10 of them, and there's even one signed by Lemony Snicket! However, I have only met Tim Green before, but I really did like him a lot. He was nice and friendly. Overall, it was a good experience. I definitely would want to meet John Green, as I have heard he's funny and witty.

I had the pleasure of meeting Terry Brooks a few years back when my son took me to a book signing for my birthday. It was great listening to him read from his upcoming book and he was really nice about answering questions. He was gracious about signing for everybody, even those who brought in an armload of his books. :) Even made sure people who wanted pictures taken got them.

I have pen-palled with a few authors before, but the only ones I have met in person were authors of books that I had never read before! They came to my college to give lectures for other classes, but all students were invited to attend.

I went to a book signing of Paullina Simons for the bronze horseman a few years ago and it was great, she is absolutely lovely!
She answered so many questions about the book, I was a bit starstruck so couldn't think of any at the time.

I would have loved to have met Roald Dahl

I am lucky to live in the San Francisco Bay Area with book signings a regular part of life. I have met many authors as I collect books and like to have them as signed first editions.

My favorite signings have been with Clive Barker and Joe Hill. They were each very smart, funny and gracious. They are both successful and could have been a bit stuck up but they were warm and engaging.

I may get out to more signings - this thread inspires me...
