Review: Escape (Tip of the Spear Book One) by Belle Ami
Layla Wallace decides to go to Dubai with her Saudi boyfriend, Zamir. She expects it to go smoothly and the only thing worrying her, are her boyfriend’s parents, thinking they might not accept her. Her worries are nothing when they are both suddenly kidnapped from the hotel room. They are both taken from Dubai to Tehran, Iran. Layla is left alone in Tehran, while her boyfriend is rescued by his father. After being left alone, she is rescued by a gorgeous, sexy, and dangerous guard, who is secretly a Mossad mole.
Cyrus Hassani is deep undercover, but when he gets a mission to save a girl, he fears that his whole cover will come burning down. Due to Layla’s father’s work, she is a target for blackmail, making Cyrus get instructions to help her escape the country. If he fails to do so, the only other option is to terminate her. Their situation is far from normal yet, Layla and Cyrus cannot escape the attraction they feel towards each other. Their escape seems impossible as all routes close, with their hunters in hot pursuit. Can Cyrus and Layla survive and escape from Iran? Can they find love?
Tema Merback who writes as Belle Ami, creates a very strong and independent female character. This book identifies as a romance novel with a bit of thriller in it. As a female and a lover of romance, I love how the author makes out the relationship between Cyrus and Layla. The writing of their relationship seems real and the teasing of Cyrus to Layla is just adorable. I found myself engrossed in the book and I couldn’t put it down. I also kept on rooting for Cyrus and Layla’s relationship and hoping they could make it out.
At first the novel starts off slow and dare I say, boring. Even though I was totally engrossed in the book, the beginning did not appeal to me. The reason for it was because it was a subject I was not very familiar with and although it was interesting, the beginning seemed boring for that reason only. Looking at it back, and rereading it, I like it, and it only seemed fair for the book to start off that way. The author built great tense situations that made me hold on to whatever I was sitting on.
Layla’s character was very strong and independent, and I loved her fiery side. Although I could never relate to her situation, her feelings seemed real, as if I was feeling them as well. Cyrus’s character was very likable. He seemed handsome and strong and although sometimes he was more mad than happy, I could understand his anger. His thoughts angered me though, just because it was something he was not saying out loud. I wanted to slap him on the head every time he did that. As for the secondary characters, I felt they were relevant to the plot and I felt like their part needed to be in the story for it to advance. The author mainly transferred the chapters to different perspectives but it was written in a way where I did not feel lost at all. It was written very smoothly and although I sometimes do not enjoy books like that, I very much enjoyed this one.
The end of the book was spectacular. I do not want to give away any spoilers, but I feel like the author gave us what we needed that I did not want the book to end. It seemed hard to put down the book after it was finished, I really wanted to find that there was more to the book. Although the book contained mature scenes, I did not have any issues with the book.
I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars. It was a very well written book. Due to mature scenes, I do recommend this book only to adults. The mature scenes are more detailed than I would have read, but overall it was amazing. This book would appeal to those looking for a romance novel with a bit of thriller.
