Escape by Belle Ami is the first book in Tip of the Spear series. Layla Wallace, a beautiful auburn haired Jewish American college student and daughter of a renowned Nuclear Physicist, is abducted on her vacation with her Saudi boyfriend in Dubai and taken to Tehran. Cyrus, a sexy confident undercover Mossad agent working in the Iranian Ministry of Intelligence and Securities, is activated. His mission is to get her out of Iran alive, if that cannot be done then he is to kill her. Immediately, he is stunned by her beauty and wit, and has a hard time coming to terms with what he could potentially have to do. Cyrus and Layla have to outmaneuver and outwit some of the most ruthless and cunning agents of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard as they travel across Iran to safety. Intrigue, sex, and suspense all happens in such a short time but seems like it could be a lifetime for them.
As you begin to read this book, it catches your attention with its sense of intrigue and sexuality. You can almost imagine yourself in the different countries or with the different nationalities. I really enjoyed the way the author used native words mixed in with English. Having those words helped you to visualize where the author wanted you to be. The sex scenes were heady, stimulating, and graphic. You could easily imagine those words as actions being performed, which makes these scenes even more fun to read.
There were times during reading that I became confused as to who was speaking. It seemed like there wasn't enough difference in rhythm between Layla and Cyrus. When she was kidnapped, there wasn't any misunderstanding or real pleading, which is something you would expect. Layla was acting as if being kidnapped was almost a norm for her. What was also confusing for me was the couple of traumatic experiences that Layla was a part of. After each of these attempted experiences, she recovered almost immediately, which would be unheard of. There is always trauma but the author doesn't seem to take any note of this. Especially after the last attempt, Layla should have psychological issues but there is no mention of it. She seems to take everything that is happening to her as if in a fantasy but not her reality. I also noticed that sometimes Layla's inner dialogue didn't always match what she would do or say next.
I think that anyone that is interested romance, adventure, and suspense would like this book. It was a fun and interesting read for me and I would recommend it. 28
I will give this book a 3 out of 4 stars because of a couple grammatical issues and the confusion as to who is speaking. I look forward to reading more in this series and other books by this author.

I also enjoyed your point about rhythm, word choice and slang. It's my pet peeve when the characters sound identical. Especially when every character will use the identical obscure words. Urg drives me nuts.
Thanks so much for your review. I will be looking forward to reading more from you!
