The Count of Monte Christo

Post by Kaharris »

I've just finished reading the above mentioned book. It's a wonderful tale
of unjust suffering and exquisite revenge. My public library located the
book in the young adult section, though with its length and heft (1000+ pages), I wonder if any teenage would be willing to wade through this
19th century classic. I'm a middle-aged man myself.

I was wondering if anyone else out there has read it and has any thoughts
on the nature of suffering and revenge.

I have it on my shelf beside me but haven't got to reading it yet ... and sad to say, I'm no teenager either.

My husband purchased for me a first edition new printing with the gold leaf pages for my birthday a couple years back!! I just love that book and it is one of my favorites.

I read the Count of Monte Cristo after I finished The Three Musketeers. I was 17.

I loved it! There is something about characters who plan out and carry out such complex methods of revenge that hooks me in and makes me wonder could it really work? Who would have the patience?

What made me love it as a teenager was Alexandre Dumas' ability to incorporate love, treasure, revenge, sword fights, escape plans... it had everything. And once I started reading the length didn't bother me.

The Count of Monte Cristo is on a shortlist of mine to read. You've reminded me to get around to reading it, thanks!

I read this one when I was a teenager and thoroughly enjoyed it. I shied away from older books like this because of their length, but I flew through the Count. I love this story.

I am 16 years old and just started reading the book on kindle. I am greatly enjoying it and have quickly flown through about 25 chapters in a short period of time. I would recommend it to anybody. I cant wait to get into the book further.

Yes...wonderful book; you see revenge gets you no-where ! He slowly becomes aware of the fact that fate is incomprehensible to us mere mortals and I like how he slowly starts to become dissatisfied with his scheming and the results of same.

I have wanted to read it, but I have something against the Three Musketeers. I haven't read it either, but its place in popular culture has made me dislike it.
