My daughter really enjoyed reading this book and reported back the story to me enthusiastically. She is 6 but a very advanced reader so the simple concepts but advanced vocabulary were a good combination for her. I like how the information presented in it was actually based on the real scientific processes of nature.

I also loved the illustrations of the caterpillars including their facial expressions. As an adult, I really enjoyed this book and I think many other adults would also appreciate the opportunity to escape for a few minutes into the world the author has created. Thanks for the review.

Great review! I don't usually read children's books because I don't have any small children in my family but it's nice to see that this book gives a great message about the environment. I also really like the illustrations. I'm sure this would be a great read for kids and their parents. :)

Thanks for the comprehensive review. It made me keen to read the book and solicit my kids' views. Mine are a little older than the target age range but they always loved such books as The Very Hungry Caterpillar - he was known by his epithet and not his name after all, so perhaps this isn't a stumbling block. Many children's books combine fantasy and reality, so maybe that's not an issue either. I do look forward to reading it.

I like your review and the illustrations on the cover of the book are beautiful. This is great for young children to read, but I do agree that the caterpillar should have been named. I also agree that some of the word choices could have been changed to reflect the vocabulary of three to seven year olds.

Caterpillars seem to be popular with kids. Another book starring them that I found very good is Hope for the Flowers, now a classic. I can't wait to enjoy the free copy of BOTD.

Thanks for your thorough review.

Great review bookowlie, I have read your review, I think you read this book very deeply and with interest, that;s why you remember the pharses- a wave of frustration, in harmony and like your line- sweet description about loving Caterpillar. I will definitely read it. Thanks. :tiphat: congrats to Sean Browne@ BOTD.
