The Bonding is a romantic science fiction about two people from different worlds brought together, seemingly by fate. One a Queen-designate seeking help for her entire world that's under attack; the other a warrior whose very nature seeks to protect the weaker or female species. These two powerhouses in their own right battle heads as they try to understand the consequences of an unorthodox but necessary bond they had to form.
The Bonding is an engaging story that gets you hooked from the beginning to the very end. The author creates an alien world that is carefully presented through the characters experience and memories. A rational eclectic world that is easy to understand, relative to the world today and futuritic, one might say. This is a humorous, dramatic and sexy love story. It's believable. Real, notwithstanding the novelty of the fictional world.
Uneconomicical on the heated (sexual) scenes yet the senses are not overwhelmed to the point of losing focus on the storyline. One remains absorbed by the characters and their unimaginable future. It truly is hard to abandon it despite the heat.
Towards the end, the author smartly puts a diversion that masks or blurs the leading character's whereabouts to keep the reader from predicting the always hoped reunion of the two (lovers) as expected in any romantic tale. Thus creating suspense, curiosity, even anxiety about the conclusion of their story. Fans of romance will not be disappointed with the bonding as it silhouettes all ideals of an adventurous love story.
A trace of a 'series' is alluded to through other characters and their lingering destiny. There is an "I wonder what happens to that guy" kind of feel to it. Yet, what I love about it is that one will be satisfied having read book one and not have the compulsion to read book 2 or 3 the very next day! I think that is a compassionate act by the author and as a result, I am more than happy to read her next book at my own pace, in between other books. No pressure, no long wait for completion of the next publication.
I would rate the bonding 3 out of 4. I would not rate it 4 out of 4 because in the beginning the book does not read as smoothly as it could because of the many commas. I found that to be a risky element that might dampen the spirit and speed with which it was started. I believe a further editorial touch to improve the grammar on the prologue would give the book an immediate face lift.
